^^INDIANAPOLIS, Dec 10, 1843. Dear Sir :—You doubtless get all the material faets transpiring here, through the daily newspaper mediums, and therefore you will hardly expect from me much of that chnraptcr. 1 con probably givo you somo light upon 'those "facts" which' the papers do not choose to give, and ^littdthat sometimes, is more Interesting than facts themselves, lean girq you the retailfhps of dame Kumor too, and the old Lady is often the "shadow before truth." The election of State Treasurer has come off at last. To the whigs, somewhat of a victory,—-to tho domocralSj a terrible defeat. Jndeod I never saw tho-un-torrified ••demo6racy" in quite so bad a fix as it is hero just now. It camo up amongst us boastfully triumphing, and crowing over the result'of our lost election, overbearing in its temporary power. Its advent was herald* ed. by every locofoco (8 by 10) weekly in the State, as the period of w)ig rule, and the commencement of an unembarrassed, un^efiled democratic reign, which was to do every thing but make corn grow in January, its first step was the windy and pointless Message, and speech of its high dignitaries. Its sccond, tho organization of our legislative bodies, to work out some, not yet oxactly defined ends. Its object was,, (that was plain enough) "the lonvesnnd fishes." For, with thosewtfhereby the People, came myriads pf othirssent by

fragments. For a time, to a fnere looker-on, the destinies'o/ poor whiggery did seem dark and dismal* There did seem no hope, no pros* pect but utter annihilation, by tho sounding brass of their laurel clad foes. The first full fair trial of arms between the parties, was in thi« same election of Treasurer. The democrats had attempted organization. The, old tin-pan procession was resdrted to* and Mr. Goousst.L, (by the bye, ft very gentlemanly man) selected as theif candidate. When the convention met to eloct, and after repented trials, to their uttordismay thoy could rally fo their nominee but60 votes 'They then shifted their ground, dropped Coodsbix, and brought forward their old leader NAtHan B. Bull FfGirrs in Spaik—Espartero, the late Spanish Regent, prohibited these disgusting and cruel exhibitions, but the new gov* ernment has revived them. A grand hull fight wna lately held nt Madrid, at which tlie. young Queen and her Ministers assisted, it being for the benefit of the funds for building a church. The spectacle lasted three hours, during Wh^Oh Jiine eight bulls were killed, thirteen horses disembowelled, and one man carried off with his ribs broken. The exhibition is jeiid to have re&tiriM £1000. These bull fights are not, as many believe, mere worrying of bulls by dogs. They are exhibitions of great skill and valour, and the dagger Onhdnces the interest. A fierce buTT is let loose in a grand amphitheatre, wltich accommodates10,000 persons, and is goaded nnd attacked by several horsemen with javilins, and several on foot until maddened with rage, he unhorses iho riders and generally kills the animals, and in turn Is killed by a skillful swordsman.
