AUGUST ELECTION.
Will oar friend* benr in mind that the election is fast approaching. Very important offices to fill. Governor, Lieut. Governor, Congress, Senate and lower House, of our own Legislature, &c. fcc. Whig principles are few and simple—easily understood by alljust the same as in 1840,—just as essential to the welfare of our country, and as necessary to be carried out now as heretofore.
GOVERNOR BIGGER. vat
'm -Some six months have elapsed since Gov.
BIGGSR
was placed in nomination by a Whig
State Convention, as a candidate for re-elec-tion to the honorable station which he now occupies. This would be time, amply sufficient, one would suppose, for the vigilance of his dpponents to have arrayed against him all 'reasonable charges, and objections, if any such couMfe found, why he should not once more receive the suffrages of his fellow-cit-izens. So far, we have not heard advanced, from any quarter, one solitary reason, which even the party opposed to him, are willing to set forth in the character of a good objeotion to his ro-election. So faithfully and impartially has he performed the duties properly belonging to the Executive, that no grounds are afforded for dissatisfaction to any party. Is it not therefore, a compliment due to a public servant, as a reward for honorable and faithful services, that every Whig to a man, as well as good citizens of all parties, should turn out and place in the ballot box a vote for Gov.
BIGGER.

docs not hold the sentiments
of Mr. WHIGHT—and equally far, are the views of the latter, from coinciding with those of Mr. CLAY, on any political question. But the great object of the writer seems to be, the old trick, of some pretended advice about the folly of drawing party lines &c. On this subject he says— "I for one sir, most object to this cioao tension of party lines at the present day It aeems high time that sit men should unite, aa far as possible, in the support of rnfsrarea calculated to promote the good of the country and that every attempt to create unnecessary divisions among the people should be frowned down."
Now this is all very pretty on paper—but from whence come these sweet sounding words! Why, from the very party, which of all otlierf, practices the doctrine rocommended the least. It is the old trick just before an election. Hew is it carried oat in practice? By the Locofocos when voting, the party line is drawn to the very letter, however they may preach privately, when conversing with Whigs. And for this Mr.
WRIGHT
they will vote to a man. There is
no attctftpfcamong Whigs to create divisions amonjftfee people. All they ask is, to vote for, and sustain those who will carry out true Whig principles. Let onr friends be on' their guard, and not be carried away by this siren song, of "no party lines," sung by those, who only want to obtain votes for their own party men.

ATTORNBY GENERAL. ...
The fotiowinff from the N, Y. Tribune, contains questions which it will be quite much relief 10 this vicinity to have answered, as to that of New York. •'There is a very general anxiety in this vicinity—as we doubt not there is every where—to know something of the new Attorney General, John Nelson, Eeo^— (lad Mr. Pettigru of South Carolina taken the office we should have felt secured by his great reputation na a jurist of eminent ability, that the lamented Legare had a worthy successor but now we have reason for no such belief. Tho Madisonian apenfcs of his "extraordinary legal attainments, great iateflect and irreproachable character but that print lbs said quite aa, much, nay, much more even than this of Robert Tyier~and would undoubtedly say it of any one e(self its official master should bid it. Will not the Baltimore papers—if the examination woo!t? not coat them too much labor—tell us who and what is John Nelson, oar new Attorney General!" vS i' "1B()V."W(36ER.
It is a singular fact, that the locofocos do not pretend to find any fault with the official conduct of Gov. Big-
eras Chief Magtsttate of the State and yet they are all in their power to prevent his re-election And? what more singular still, Mr. Whitcomb, in all h« speeches, affects greatly to deprecste party spirit. He seems to think that, if not checked, it will ruin the country- Now, if Mr. Braer has done well —if he hat discharged his duties faithfully, why remove him? Ia it not palpaple that he is opposed on party grounds, and on party grounds alonef Bah!— The preaching and the practices of the looofocoe do correspond.
