SUBSCRIBERS AND PATRONS.
To those who owe u« we hare BOW distinctly to say: 1st. Subscribers indebted for two years*
Vols. 10th and 11th. must without further delay settle their accounts. ^2ad. Subscribers indebted for the 11th voltfma or any part of the volume, will confer a great favour by at once paying for the year. 3d. Those who owe for job work and advertising cannot longer be indulged, but wjll be expected promptly to pay tbeir dues.
This call is not made as a mere matter of course but in earnest'—ond it ia hoped will be attended to promptly. We cannot furnish reading to others without being paid. It it unreasonable, and ^morally wrong to expect it. Our capital in business is made up o? a great number of. small sums—and each individual who delays payment is doing us an injury. Let each put the question to himself—and as he would wish to be dooo by, for his labor, so let him consider the necessity of doing to us, for the labor we give. Subscribers and Patrons in town—those who receive tbeir papers by mail-—as well as those supplied in oar box, -1 or by Packets, must one and all consider themselves applied to by this notice.
$ pS SANTAThTii^
We resume again thii week Mr. KBNDAX.L'S sketches of the Santa Fe Expedition. They A were discontinued a short time in consequence of the absence of Mr. Kendall. The Jaat number published, we believe in our paper left the prisoners a short distance from Paso, having just passed that place on their way to the cily of Mexico. The present sketch comt^mences at Chihuahua, the first place of any note after leaving Pnso. These sketches are lively and interesting, and ftill be continued

JOSEPH AM WRIGHT.
A short time since thib gentleman announced himself as a candidate to represent this (the 7th,) District in Congress. Mr. Wright is now and from child hood haa been idenufied with the Democratic party. He ia for GIN. CASS for the Preaidency subject to tho decision of a National Convention. Greenaulh Patriot*
Friend Eckels the above is not true, as you wed know, unless indeed your memory haa failed you wonderfully. It ia not true that "Mr. Wright is now and from ehiklhood haa hUn idenufied with the Democratic party." The fact ia Mr. Wright wna, when a citizen of Bloomlngton, one of the noisest friends John Quincy Adams had in the place. He made it hie business to visit the different barrooms in Bloomington, duing one or two of Mr. Adams' contests with Gen. Jackson for the Presidency and engaged every friend of the Old Hero in argument, generally in a rude and insolent manner, and many times come near getting himself kicked out of the house by strange travellers. These are Acts no doubt well recollected by many of our old citizens. Mr. Wright, to the best of our knowledge, never changed hhr politics until he finished the study of law in this place, and went to Rockvilte to reside. There be found Gen. Jackaon was the strong homeand forthwith be mounted him to the great astonishment of bis friends and relatives here.— We think his own brothers fwho are aa good Whigs aa he ia a bad Loeofbeo) will bear us out in what we have stated above. Be carefu|Delana, we heve lived ia Btoomington many years, and are )*rfeetly acquainted with the hiatory of those who have refage in other parte. SXXBS.—The
lawa of life and mortality between the
ty bet
are very remarkable. .They are stated thvK 1. In the present condition of tho white population of the United States, the number of females born per annum ia about 12,000 less than the malea. Thia determines of itself that the iawa of our origin and nature are the! same—that one man nail, be the huaband of one woman. 3. At 20 years of age the females exceed the male* Thia proves that between the birth and 20 the mortality among the boys has been much greater than that amortg the prls. 3. From 20 to 40 the men again much exceed the women, which shows that this is the period of greatest mortality among women. 4. From 40 to 70 the difference rapidly diminishes, the females, as in early part of life, gaining on the males. This shows that this is tbe period of greatest danger and exposure to men, the last to women. 5. From 70 onward the women outnumber tbe men. This shows conclusively that, rel« atively speaking, in comparison with men, thtj healthiest period of female fife is at the elose of it. Absolutely however, no period to either sex if so as that of ^routh—th^ blooming period of b^rhood and girlhood.
The above deductions' of statistical tables correspond with every day observations of human lifts"
Woman are exposed to peculiar hazards in tbe middle of life but in the long run far the largest part of this, exposure, danger and riak, in civilized nations (all on meo in the active periods of life.
