Hoof Ail—-A writer from Upper Cannda, in the New Genesee Farmrr, says he believes it is an opinion

well eatahliahed, that ergot of rye, or trtal cornutum has given ri#c to gangrene in the human species. antf hoof ail being the usual term for gangrene in animate, he thinks the disease ia caused bv ergot, rather than by nnimnls freezing thrirfeet. Hesnvs ergot mav be found in large qoantittes in Juneor spear grsw, watch he considers nearly similar to that found tn rye.

Upon rsfering to a treaties by W. B. Dodge M. D-, of Trenton, N. Y. upon gangrene or hool ail tn cattle, we find he fcgrees with the writer, that ergot cause* u, and that it never result# from froat. Tha cure, which the writer t* the New Geneeee Farmer, says he has found effectual, is lo change the food and en' off the points rf the hoof, so that the animal will bleed freely.
