TESTIMONIALS.
From Dr. Eli Todd, late President of the Medical Society of Connecticut, and principal of the Insanie Hospital at Hartfortl, dated September 8,1838
My personal acquaintance with Dr J. P. Peters together with the very favorable impression of his talents und his character, derived from his friends, have satisfiod me that he is well entitled to the medical honors h« received at YalcColt«ge, and that the public may safely confide ju his integrity and skill, in the exercise of hit profession, Etliactofa loiter from Dr. Jesse Sanders dated Woodville, Miss. August28th. 1836: "Ml. Albett Spenccr gave me the agency of your Vegetable Anil-Bilious Pills for this place and left me at the time as many as I petsumed would supply the demand for 12 months. Scarcely, however, had I sold a doien boxes than a run commenced upon them whioh consumed my whole stock in rathei less than four *vecks. Since then I have contrived to procure a gross more, which lasted a few days, but now I am entirely out. which lioubles me not a little, .as have several calls for them every hour in the day. Indeed, sir, the sale of your invaluable pills has not only taken the wW of every thing el*e in the medicine line that was ever introduced into this section ofthe country, but has actually stopped the sale of all other*. Yo1 will immediately, on the receipt of this, forward me 2,000 boxes at your lowest wholesale prices, dircctflri to thn care of Prescott, James and Co.N. Orlenus, and I will remit you the amount ofyour bill as soon ns received.

BE ON YOUR GUARD.
The extensive sale, the unprecedented popularity, and constantly increasing great demand for that most beneficial and universally approved mvdicino, known as DR.BRANDRETH'S VEUETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS, has induced many individuals, who are entirely destitute of common honesty, to COUNTERFEIT THEM.
The very circumstance ol persons being constantly engaged in counterfeiting them, (the Pills,) "is confirmation strong ns proof of Ho'y Wit," of their extraordinary beneficial effects.
As yon value your health, BEWARE WHERE YOU PURCHASE. Furthermore, when you want to obtain Brandreth's Pills in their original purity, be sure to KEEP CLEAR OF THE DRUG STORES, for if you purchase pil!s of them for Brandreth's, you arc as certain as death to get an injurious article, no matter how much the proprietors of drug stores and pedlars allirm .that they have the genuine pills.

THE CTThE OF SCROFULA, or KING'S E VIL, RHEUMATISM. Ulcerous Sores. Syphilis, and the host of painful and hitherto incurable affections resulting'therefrom White Swellings, Diseases of the Liver ana Skin, General Debility, f-c., and all Diseases arising from impurity of the Blood.
This medicine is particularly recommended as an alterative and a purifier of the Blood. It gives a tone and vigor to debilitated Constitutions, which invalids arej unconscious of until they have experienced its effects.
It is also recommended in Diseases where the Lungs and Breast are supposed to be affected, and also where the constitution is broken down by the use of Mercury or Quinine.
This medicine has the singular fortune, a just tribute to its great merit, of being recommended by the most celebrated practitioners of medicine in the United States and Europe whereas, riot one of the spurious mixtures rr.ftde in imitation of it has the least support from the medical faculty. This fact offers an argument so plain and conclusive, that it needs only to be mentioned to enforce conviction. Swaim's Panacea is recommended to all those invalids for whom physicians prescribe Sarsuparilla Syrups, Ex tracts, &c.
Swaim's Panacea is in round bottles, fluted longitudinally, with the following words blown in the glass —"Swaim's Panacea —Philada.," having but one label which covcrs the cork, with the signatnre of Wm Swaim on it, so that the cork, (bearing also upon it as a seal the impression, "Wm. Swaim,") cannot be drawn without destroying the signature without which none is genuine. The medicine may consequent ly be known to be genuine when the signatnre is visi-

It is but a very short timesincc these Medicines have been introduced into the 1-evre and Ague Districts, nrnl the proprietor flatters himself that during that period, wherever they have been used according lo the directions, they have done more towards exterminating the disease than all other remedies and prescriptions combined. It is a common excuse among "regula practitioners" when specifics are introduced, that they cannot cure diseases which people are in the habit of considering incurable. Medical experience is constinually doing away a part of the list of the incurable diseases, and Mr. Moflfat has the happiness of confidently announcing that FEVER AND AGUF. is now to be added to the number of complaints which modem skill hss conquered.

Tbeir first operation is to loosen front the coats of thestouiach and bowels, the various impurities and crudities constantly settling around them and to remove the hardened faeces which collectin the convolutions ofthesmallest intestines. Other medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce habitual coctiveness, with all its train of evils, or sudden diarrhoea, with its imminent dangers. This fact is well known to all regular anatomists, who examine the human bowels after death and hence the prejudice of of those well informed men against quack medicines— or medicines prepared and heralded to the public by ignorant persons. The second effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse the kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the liver and thelungfe, the healthful action of which entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary organs. The blood, which lakes its red color from the agency ofthe liversnd the lungs befoie it passes into the heart, being thus purified by the 'oiand nourished by food coming from a clean stomach, courses, freely through the vein®, renews every part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the banner ot health in the blooming cheek.
Moffat's Vegetable Life Medicines have been thoroughly tested, and pronounced a sovereign remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation of the Heart, Loss of Appetite, Heart-burn and Headache, Restlessness, Ill-tempei, Anxiety, Langor and Melancholy,'^'ostiveness, Diarrhoea, Cholera, Fevers of all kinds, Rheumatism, Gout, Diopsieeof al) kinds, Gravel, Woims, Asthma and Consumption, Scurvy, Ulcers, Inveterate Sores, Scarbutic Eruptions and Bad Complexions, Eruptive complaints, Hallow, Cloudy, and other disagreeable Complexions, Salt Rheum, Erysipelas, Common Colds and Influenza, and vatioii* other romplaints which afflict the human frame In Fever and Ague, particularly, the Life Medicine* have been most eminently successful so much so that in the FeveT and Ague districts, Physicians almost universally prescribe them
All that Mr. Moffat requires of Kis patients is to be particulur in taking the Life Medicines strictly according lo the directions. It is not by a newspaper notice, Or by anything that lie himself may say in their favor, that he hopes to gain crcdil. It is alone by the results ofa fair trial.
MOFFAT'S MEDICAL MANUAL, signed as a domestic guide to health. This little pamphlet, edited by W. B. Moffat, 375 Broadway, New York, has been published for the purpose of explaining more fully Mr. Moffat's theory of distsses, and will be found highly interesting to per*or.s seeking health. It treats upon prevalent diseases, and the causes thereof. Price, 25 cents—for sale by Mr. Moffat's agents, generally.

the patient is only ordinsrily careful, and resorts directly to his medicine upon the first symptom of tendency to anew attack, it may always be wardde off. To escape one chill would ibe of infinitely more consequence to the sufferer thsn the valse of the remedy—to remove the disease permanently would confer a benefit upon him which cannot be estimated by sny earthly standard. That these Medicines will effect whst is here claimed for them, the Proprietor has the testimony of all acquainted with them and their application and use in the Fever and Ague and bis object in now addressing bis friends at the West is to request them that they will spare no pains in communicsting their experience, and disseminating this highly interesting informstion, now that the season for Fever snd Ague has arrived.
It is not for the mere purpose of disposing of a few hundssd packages ot tbe Life Medicines, that the proprietor makes this appeal. Tbe demand for his Medicines is already greater than he can conveniently supply and even were it insufficient to sfford him business, be would conceive himself supremely selfish, if his pleasure was not greater at the benefit conferred upon the suffering part of the community by an increase in his sales, than at his own pecuniary profit.
The Life Medicines, if properly used and persevered in, recommend themselves still it is n»ces 'he public should know that such mediillw exist, snd hence the propriety of advertising thesa. It is hoped, therefore, that tbe proprietor will not be accused of egotism when he says that there is no medicine or mode of treatment extant, .^Ttr *od ague, so appropriate, thorough add posime in its happy effects as MOFFAT'S LITE PILLS AND PHffiKlT

From Salmon Wright, Esq., Attorney and Counsellor at Law, Terre-Haute, Dear Sir: Some years ago 1 was, to all appearance going rapidly into consumption. I had severe pains in the breast, spit blood, could beai no exposure, nor coald 1 make any exertion in business. My food was digested
with difficulty, and afforded very little nourishment, my strength declined and flesh wasted, and my situation was altogether alarming. In this state of things, a friend recommended to me your Medicamentum, having seen it used with benefit in the case of an acquaintance whose condition was, he thought, similar to mine. I procured a bottle, and took it according to directions with great benefit. Being encouraged, I continued its use, and was,in a short time, restored to the comparative good health which I have enjoyed ever since. 1 am pleased to hear that you are preparing to introduce it into general us* in the country, fori consider it a valuable medicine. «.1

that so various
and peculiar are the diseases which aflect it, that their, treatment alone might well form a separate and distinct^ branch of Surgery. it cannot, therefore, be expected^ that every one who practices the healing art will devot-f the time and labor in obtaining that knowledge of then tructureand the complicated derangements to whiche it is liable, which is indispensably requisite to the cor-[ rect and successful management ofthis class of diseases In view of these facts, the undersigned haaspared neither* time nor opportunity to make himself thoroughly ac quainted with every variety and apecies of the diseases* of the Eye, and iaenablod to adduce the most respectable testimonials and references to prove that he has not only performed the most delicate operations upon the Eye with complete success, but has treated the moat ntricate and difficult diseases to the entire satisfaction of the patients themselves.
