To the fUtitort of the Ohio Argutt GI5NTI.KMCN: It is with much regret that I find it necessaay to appear before the public to correct a

false impression attempted to bo palm

ed upon the public mind, (by some ignominious lettei*writer and the. Van Buren men) by the use of my name, without my knowledge or consent. I did not attend the meeting held at the Court-house in Lebanon* on the first inst., and never consented to serve as a Delegate to the Convention of the 8th of January, at Columbus. I was not then, am not now, and never was in favor of Martin Van Buren, as my first choice fbr the Presidenty. I was not then, neither am 1 now, in favor of a National Contention, unfits it should be to decide between two candidates of the same political faith, brought btfore the public by the people in primary meetings or otherwise, by common consent and that only when two or more were bppotjSd by one candidate of opposite principles.

I now dsj and have, ever sintfe I attived at tlte age of maturity? considered raysdl a Republican. I believed GeneHil Jamison was the lUpubUcan candidate fbr the*Presidency, and Voted fbr him in 18i34f 1838, and 18S2, and am well pleased with the general course of his ad% «ministration. And 1 am now, and have ever since 1 heard hi* name mentioned as a candidnt*sbeenin favor of Judge M'Lean to succeed

General Jackson for President and shall only wnt*c mf preference, when I see another republican camlui tte presented, by the primary meetings of the people, with stronger claims thari him. 1 havo known him pprr^hally for more than twenty-fivp years, and for many rears lived a "iiear twiglMwr tuhiro, and believe him to be an honest, moral man, and a good Republican.— And no man better understands the interests of the farmers ,n him, us he was brought up oft a farm himself. Ilis public services are too well known and appreciated to need a repetition t© justify my »ref«reace for his elevation.
