MltCEIAAllEOt^ CIJUM FOR TBI COXSUMPTIOW. An Bngliafcchcmirt of HiA feme, Mr. John Mairayf of Hull, F. 8* A., «fcc. has discovered whit he firmly belietfes to be a core for the tubercular phthisic, or far gone consumption. His work on thi* subject, which is de* dicated to the Dake of Wellington, contains the result of twelve years inquiry, daring which period his thoughts nave been exclusively bent to this noble and philanthropic object In the progress of his investigations, he came to the very rational conclusion, and one which has impressed many other minds, that if any remedy should ever r» be found out for structural diseases of the lungs, it must be some one which ,may be brought into immediate contact with the diseased surface, and when there, have the power of subdu- & ing the morbid action without diminishing the general tone of the system. .« At length Mr. Murray believes that he has discovered such a remedy in the vapor °f nitric acid, and this fiact is the 5k more worthy of attention, since it came fmm a source where empyricism cannot be suspected.—Boston Med* and

ALF AGED CLIRGTM AW. Rev. Dr. Peikins, of West Hartford Dt., recently preached his sixteenth anniversary sermon. W# learned from a Hartford print, that he informed a listening auditory, nearly all of whom could date their birth since the commencement of his ministry, that in his church there bad been 1000 deaths and 1000 baptisms that he had delivered 4000 wiitten sermons, and 3000 .... extemporaneous ones, on other occaiSf sions of worship that he bad attended
60 ordinations and installations, and had preachcd 20 ordination sermons, 12 oi which had been published by request that he had attended one hundred ecclesiastical councils, to heal difficulties in the churches, and that he had fitted for college 150 students, and more than 30 for the gospel ministry. Dr. Perkins is now 83 years of .age. His step is yet firm, his mind vigorous, and ne continues to discharge his pastoral duties without ioterruption.
An English gentleman and his friend travelling thro* apiece of woods in one of the western states, took with him an Indian lad as guide. In the course of the day they separated, and one of them finding some curious berries, sent them to his companion by the lad, with a note specifying th* number. The one who received the present, found some of the berries missing, and having reprimanded the boy for eating or losing them, sent him back for more. The gentleman forwarded a second parcel, with the number again marked on the note.—The boy played the same trick with these, belivering only part of what he received. ^This procured a second scolding. Whereupon the Indian fell down upon his knees, and kissed, the paper, saying
ttI
found out, th$ first
time this! paper was a witch or a conjurer but now he has proved his power to be supernatural indeed because he tells that which he did noi see} for when I flung away the last berries, for the sake of ^experiment, 1 took care to slip the note under a stone, that it might not know what was passing."
Excessive the Supreme Court
Lesri
of Connecticut, a case of
considerable importance was thrown oat of Court, a short time since in consequence of a power of attorney having teen acknowledged before a notary public, there being a statute of Connect ticut prescribing that such acknowledgements shall oe taken before a us ticcofthe Peace* This little bit of legislation, of no use in the case, deprived an honest citisen of the justice for which he had appealed* An Instrument acknowledged before a notary is as good as if acknowledged any where elee. All that is wanted is a power of attorney and whether the authentication it sufficient Is proper matter to be decided by the Court.— Too much of our legislation does little else, than narrow, crook, and otherwise obstruct the path of justice, so that none but la wyet scan pass through it

RNRUI SHOOTING.—A
gentleman of
this city, with a rifle, hit the site of a
s" %Mk six cent piece at the distance of 30 yards, 31 times in 36 shots. This unusual performance was made in deciding a wager, that in 50 shots he would have a clear majority of 35 hits. The firing was from a rest in an open field, with a rifle carrying about 50 bulb to a pound, and sighted in the usual manner. The object shot at was a piece of white card cut in the form of a si* cent piece^od pasted on a dark ground.
What is remaiitabie he accomplished sixteen hits in succession, and eight of the number carried away the centre of the object shot at.—-JV. Cbtcr*
