Here in July, when we havo not less than 5'iH't votes ah?etii from tiietaty, almo-l without crganization, f;t a ti.ne when few of our friends deemed it pos-iV.e for u-3 even to make a decent light, we have gone into battle, and come out crowned with the laurels of victory! We have revolutionized the city; and but far the outrages committed by the Locofocj judges in closing the polls in some of our strongest wards, we should have elected our whole ticket by from :Vi() to i!0 majority! As it is we have achieved wonders. With tbe b3lf.1t boxes closed on us in our strong places, and fighting the enemy hand ti hnd in hir? own quarter?, we have elected SlaVilX OF THE TEN M EM BE MS OF THE LEGISLATURE, end sir of the eleven delegates to the Convention! We have canied a .MAJORITY of POTII TICKETS, and demonstrated our ability tocarrv the whole city by n triumphant rmjori- ' ty! Tolk. Dallas and T-xas are defunct! The biz gun has made a dash in the pan.
and hcneelorlh we siian hear no more ot it. This work was performed on Monday, and so far as the vote of Louisiana is concerned, it is a 'fixed fact' it goes for Henry Clay by thousand-. Judging from the result in this city, we have very little doubt that we have secured a majority in the Legislature, and two :.:;r:BKRs ofCono:;ks3. The majority for .Mr. Tbibod.iux (Whig) in this city, is from 'd'20 to 250. and Ids election is certain by a large vote. thn Fourth district, our information
leaves no cause to doubt the election cf Judge IJoRDEDON, by a handsome and decided majority. Thus, the Whigs of Louisiana send cteetings to their brother Wlrgs. and bid them go and do likewise. THE RESULT. From all the information we can gather, we are satiated that the Whigs have elected the following named gentlemen to the State Convention: Christian Rosalias Adolphe Mazureau, Charles M. Conrad, J. P. Benjamin, W. C. C. Clairbome, J. Culbsrtson.
For the Legislature, we have elected: Manual (.ruzat, Arrnand Pilie, Jules Lav"S'ie. A. I). Crossman, D. F. Purihe, i ergus C.'ardere, Louis Douvignaud. I or the Convention, the Locofocs have ejected Jno. R. Crymes, H. B. Cenas. eorge Eustis, Pernard Marigny, and I ierre Soule. Fur the legislature they elected: C. F. Dauuoy, B. (J. Fouteueau, and V. Gayarre. It wili be seen, therefore, ihat thaWhigs l:avo carried a majority of bt,th tickets t.'iirlccn of the twenty -one persons wha were to be ejected. Mr. Rosdtus, tbe Whig who has obtained the dargest vote. Ins a niajoritv over the lowest Locofoeo of TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY. NINTd Our average majority is some what more than one hundred votes! The first atid third districts go for the Loeofoeos by default. No doubt need be entertained that we shall gain tivo members of Congress we speak by the card. communicated. Ohitiiui'v. It is p. sad and painful task to record the death of a depaited friend. Put a feel
ing of duty prompts us to the act, as a token of our regard and esteem for the departed. And the tusk becomes more painful when we know the individual was taken from us as it were" in good health and in the dower of youth. Thus have we to record the death of Elizabeth, daughter of E. Z. and Mmerine, Ryan aged years four months and ten days, who, w hile playing with a com-m-n wood screw about an inch and e half long, let it oass into the 'J'rachea or Windpipe, hieh'produced suff oca'ion. Medical aid was obtamed but to no purpose; she died in ehont fiftoen nsinutes, on Monday, July PHb, 1-41.
Although young, her powers of intellect v ere developed to a surprising degree; she was indeed the pride and admiration of all who knew her, snd while her affectionate and bereaved parents and friends mourn her loss, thev have one thing to console them, for although a serious loss to them, it is her infinite and eternal gain.
