A scene of this sort was presented the other day at our warf, which was peculiarly rich in the ludier ms. A number of passengers were at the Hotel waiting to .take tlie "first boat," and among others a gentleman from the interior, whose fat, plump figure indicated that there was no lack of good eating about his homestead. Presently a noble steamer was seen coming down "the chute" like a race horse, and earnest were the cihs of the passenger upon the porter to get their bng3cge the landing. Most vociferous in hi impatience was our fii frie.id, who it is evident was a ;iule .,.reen" in steamboat traTell.Vig and ver- anxious to secure a passage. The boat proved to be the Missouri, on her btag trip from St. Louis to New Orleans in CiO hours, for a waer of 10,000. On she came, with the water gathering in foam under her bow, and sparkling in her wake so far a the eve could reach. Whoop! how she sfe.vkt 1 it! By the time our friend got within fifty yards of the warf, panting and out of breath, the Missouri had rounded to, and gracefully gliding by, had merely touched the iinding, and was now under a full press of steam, turning her bow outwards preparatory to pursuing her downward course. "Stop h 11!" exclaimed a stout Mississippi wagoner, who with whip in hand had been looking with amazement at the wav gallant steamer flew over the water: "Stop h li! cor. The body of General Anthony Wayne, of glorious revolutionary (memory, who died at Erie, Pa., was recently disintered and removed by his son. It was in a perfect state of preservation. Those who had known him in life recognized his features. His body seems as imperishable as his memory. B.G(;YGr.. A correspondent of the Boston Post relates the following: As I was lately travelling in a stage coach, not fifty miles from Boston, the passengers were remarking on the obliging disposition of tho driver. One of them related the following: 'As Mr. J , th driver, was proceeding out of Boston not long since, a womi'i called to him to take a bedstead on top, ?c;tiout uncording it! He told her he would oblige her the next time he came along, but he could not then as he had engaged to take on a :rind-rniU a little ways ahead, and as he had a large cradle on the top at fi':e time, he was afraid he should not have room!' The relation of the above reminded me of a driver who said ho was once requested ay a woman to wait till she finished her washing and ironing! lie told her he ohen had to wait for the women to do washing and ironing, both! Why don't you come after cold victuals as usual,' said a lady to a boy who had for a long time been a daily visiter for that species of charity. 'Father has joined the Temperance Society and we have warm victuals now,' was the reply. X. Y. lliijuircr. Life in Texas. The editor of the Galveston Gazette is in a most miserable plight. According to his own account, the musquitoes have established a large sinrtimr krhnnl in Ma lipd rnnin. mid nil .,, i .i; and comic songs are chanted during the live-long night, while the fleas, for want of a fiddle, promenade and dance over his person to the music. -If the choir would only chant the hundreth psalm, he could stand the slow dance of the fleas while footing that measure, but the vexatious pipers like to strike up a rigadoon in quick time, or the "Cambells are coming," and then the tleas, as large as down east lobsters, cut it down on his pare back with a double shufile-hecl-and-toe-it hornpipe, as if it did their souls good.
