This is the true character of the present contest, and with our conceptions of what the public safety requires with "our sense of the responsibilities which rests upon us"' as men, freemen, Amercan citizens; nothing scarcely the common wants of business certanly not the ordinary pleasures of society, ought to be cared tor until "the moral and political change, so imperiously demanded in this land of liberty,"' is effected until wc shake of this incubus that locks up every faculty of our moral and plitical frame.
