Ve take pleasure in saying, that a deep and abiding interest has recently been exhibited rn regard to this importan' woik, and preparatory measures have fcten taken for its commencement. We learcGen. Evans will immediately proceed toN York and Philadelphia, for The purpose of disposing of a portion of the slock, and that Books will soon be opened for subscriptions to that portion which it vas deemed piudent to reserve. The citizens of Knox, G ibson and Vanderburgh particularly, appear to he united in their determination to sustain the Rail Ruad Charter and the recent meeting ot the Directors at Evansville, evinced a spirit of union and enterprise which lias rarely been exibited. The Evansville Journal remarks thus. The Commissioners appointed by the ct incorporating the Evansville and Vincennes rail road Company, held a meeting in this place, on Tuesday last. The following gentlemen were present --Samuel Emmerson, Wm. Rnrfch, and J. R Martin from the County of Knox Wm. Darnel, Wm French Jno. Urownlee from the county of Gibson and R. M. Evans, Jas. Lewis &: Ja. Cawson from the county of Vanderburgh. The Rail Road Company was organized, by electing Gen. R. M Evans, President; Samuel Hill Eq Secretary and William Duitch Esq. Treasurer. This Rail Road Will Connect the Chicago and Vincennes Rail Road with the Ohio river, nl by a branch to Mt.Carmel only eight miles distant, it will form a continuation of the Alton and Mt. Carinel Rail Road toj the Ohio, at this place These connec- , tions make the Lvansvdle and V mcennec! Rail Road an important link in the w o, k j of Improvement. We have been tnlortn ed that a gentlemen of this State, who is now at the east, has written to a friend in Knox couaty. that were the bocks open for the subscription of stock and were he authorised, he could get the slock taken immediately, Subjoined is sn estimate of the probable expense of constructing the Road.
