He was a merry, brnken-dow n gentleman, who wore n bU'k silk handkerchief round hi neck and had n smattering of law whirk Kimedmfi made him verv elo

The more I retuked him the mre he railed, nnd at last he offered me a bet of the value of a coat, that he would tike that which I wore, from my hark, ly the help af the laze, and thnt I should never have any thing; to do with it again at long a I lived. Well, I did'ot upect matters were so had a all that, neither in fact, I did'nt think much about it, or I never should have made the bet, but I took him up, and we parted. The next day Frank goes to old Mr JGibson, and gels out a replevin foi tny coat, and comes along wiih the Sheriff, and takes it off my hack, and immediately put it on hit own, and looked a good deal betier fur the change. I go to Mr Gibson' office, to inquire how this was; and there I find myself very decently dock ad on a li-tof suits for March Term, 1818. Frank Taylor vs Simon Sobersides, No. 1700 and theie wni a bond given h Frank and one Mr Tom Straw, to restore me my coat if Frank could not show title to it upon trial in the Court House. 1 asked Mr. Gibson when this matter was likely to he settled, for 1 did'nt like the looks of it and he told me, very politely, that it would be for trial in March 1819 Frank wa always a desperate hard fellow on a coat and I began to run over in my mind what a pretty looking concern tins coat ofmme would he in March, 1819. However, I waited patiently for the time, and as soon as the court was opened, there was I, in person, and Mr. Gwynn, my at torney, to make a flash for my coat. There were only eighteen hundred cases on the docket lobe tried lhat term, and and mine had been promoted to No 1500 Well, after attending till June, with Mr. Ee ison, ti e Tnyl-ir who made it as a wit. nes, I found by that lime they had tried two hundred and fifty cae, when Judge D-'fsev and t1 e lawyers had to go off in the Court of Appeals; o the Court was oh liged to be adjoined, and I had to pay my witness s.mehre between t h i r I or forty dollars Mr. Gibon can teH--and 1 wa very politely told by Mr Gib. ion that I mut come again next Septem her S in September, I came again with my old friend Oenson. Mv case wa now on a more respecable fooling; it had grow n older and stood No Hl'O on the docket. So I had to wait until the next term for a new party to he made. Mr Kell staged, moreover, that poor Frank had left no effect behind him, and died utterly insolvent and good for nothing, which was vry hard case I was afiaid to say any thing about the bet, lest Mr. Kell should aeize upon it as aet in my hands. As Frank's estate was therefore a matter of moonshine, that very worthy old servant of the Court, Mr. Michael Hedinger, was put in Frank1 shoes as his administrator, on ihe docket, and with great courtesy, in Fepternber, 1822. confessed judgment in my favor, Mr. Kell not being aware of any right that frank had to this property. I started upon the world in the characlerof a plaintiff. Simon Sobersides vs Thomas Stt aw. This cae ha advanced with great vigor, considering that it is a contested case in which Straw whom 1 dont think much of has put in a great many pleas and also brought a cross action against me for the amount ol the bei, in the name of the administrator.
