J here i good sense, well expressed, in the following fiotn a popular periodical: i'emales are involved in great responsibility, and probably more than they ate aware of. To them is given the power of lorming their character, either for usefulness and an honor to their country, or for a disgrace to community a bolt "upon the fair page of morality. They can implant in their youthful hearts, the principles of virtue and integrity, that will stand by them through thir earihly career. efore the years of maturity have arrived, they can sow the seed of goodness that will take root and spring up, from which incalculable benefits may be derived, and which will, in a great measure, influence their future course in life. i-io visit the abodes of wretchedness and poverty! Go viit our goals, our prisoners, and our alms-houses, and, without peaking hypei bolically, you can say these are the fruits of the negligence of mothers those are living examples of the inattentions of parents to the morals of their children and indulgence to them in vicious practices. There are many youths w ho are the inmates of houses of correc tion, who are now writhing under the tormenting stings of an aillicting concience, who were born the heirs of wealth or no. bility, and possesed a title and superior rank, which would ensure the respect and good will of all. There is, no doubt, many a young man of promising talents, who gave sure indication of becoming great and eminent in the world, who is now the occupant of a dark and loath pome cell, the just retribution of his crime, merely for the waut of a mother's salutary counsel to restrain bin in his onward career of sin. How important is it then that they should be informed of the fact. A single tear, a gentle reproof, may save many a pang, ami your son from the gallows. A kind admonition, and affectionate entreaty may save from filling a Drunkards Grave. .Mothers! upon you depend the future welfare of your children. You can see them the abject sons of poverty and shame, or springing up like a well watered plant, to crown your last days with Happiness and J eace. Journal of It omen. Another Hank Rolbery.
