KIDNAPPING SENSATION.

A Mm Steals a Child and Sans Away With It

Yesterdaj morning the people in the northern part of town were surprised to see a roan running with a little girl" trader his arm, much as a fox weald 1 throw a goose over his shoulder and "lijtht out," or as acelored deck hand a I mile from the rirer weuld toes a cackI ling hen under his arm and make a break for his boat.

They formerly resided four miles from the town of Marshall, III, but through domestic difficulties they some time ago parted by mutual consent, the man remaining tuere and retaining one of their three children, a.id the womaa coming away with the other two. But if seems Mr. Leggett's paternal affection overcame his desire to abide by the terms of the separation. Yesterday tbe woman was temporarily away from the house, and as he was here lying in ambush for such an opportunity he seized one of the remaining children snd ran.

THE Opera House was well filled by ju elegant audience last night to witness that talented trio of dramatic stars, the Wallace Sisters, snd their sterling company in the production of their new specialty written in the shspe of a dramatic romanco especially for the sisters by America's-brightest aad most populsr author, Fred. Marsder, E«q., entitled "Jacquette, or In the Toils." The Wallace Sisters sre well and favorably known to our theater-goers, their announcement in the city has alwsys bsen received with fsror and their excellent rendition of this new production added fresh laurels to their already well-earned fame. The drama is replete with a high degree of sensational interest, exhibiting almost every phase of charactor, some supremely ludicious and others intensely emotional. The audience, from the rising of the curtain, seemed to enter completely into the spirit of the piece evincing enthusiastic demonstrations of applause and spprecistion of both the author and the actors.

Hiss Jennie Wallace in the chsracter of the heroine displayed rare versatility, embodying the different situations with a degree of talent we seldom see even amongst the best of our actresses. Her exuberance of spirit, her dash and vivacity ,tba play woro excellent ana contrasted strongly with the well represented pathos of tho sequel. Misses Minnie and Maud rendered effective support to the leading light and the p*rts taken by the other members of the company were not only excellently rendered but deserving of special commendation. Altogether the company is a good on» the orchestra fineand the general entertainment. satisfactory. They go fiom hero to Vincennes en route south.

A DOMESTIC sensation in high colored circles was brought to light yesterday by the fittag of a complaint by James K. Walker, (col) mail carrier at the Union depot, against Levi Hawkins, another disciple of Ham, and a gsy follower of the tonsori&l art, charging the latter with be* tag criminally intimate with the former's better half, or in the language of. the complaint, that "the said Walker wrongfully. wickedly and uajustly debauched oarnallv knew" said Walker's wife, and that thereby her affection for her huehand was alieniated and destroyed, and claiming $5,000 damages. The affair is creatiug considerable interest among the colored population, involving, as it doas, the outraged dignity of a federal of^ Scud aad the honor ol a hitherto

ed citizen.
