WEEKLY MARKETGRAM Special Report on Market Conditions for Week Ending Monday Night. Washington, D. C., April 4. — Apprehension of damage to growing crop by freezing caused temporary price upturn first of week, but prices began to drop on Mar. 30, due to liquidation of coarse grains for country account. Decline continued until the 2nd, when active export demand caused prices to rally, and advance that Continued throughout the 4th. Chicago May wheat down s|c at $1.38 1-8; May corn down 4|c at 59 7'-Bc. Hay,—Many eastern markets report excessive receipts. An almost cessation of demand caused markets to rule lower. Quoted in Chicago: No. 1 timothy, $25; No. 2 timothy, $20.59; No. 1 alfalfa, $24; No. 1 prairie, sl9. Peed.—-Retailers in most sections report very light business due to surplus of milk. Feed market depressingly dull and weak at lower levels. Live Stock and Meats.—The • Chicago hog market declined 1540c per 100 lbs. the past week, light hogs losing most. Beef steers and heifers practically steady; cows and a feeder steers generally 25c higher. Chicago prices: hogs, bulk of . sales, $8.75@510; medium and good beef steers, [email protected]; feeder steers, [email protected]; veal calves, [email protected]; fat lambs, $7.50@510; yearlings, [email protected]. Fruits and Vegetables.—Potato markets firm at northern shipping points, closing 85c@$1.00 per 100 lbs. sacked. Carlot market in Chicago held at [email protected].
