| School IRotesj L EuUUiIAHHUiIiMUiiUUiUUAUUUUIiMUia | Miss Deardorff ‘‘Then pale and worn, he kept his desk And peered through darkness. Ah that night Os all dark* nights! And then a speck— A light! a light! a light! i light! It grow, a starlit flag unfurled! It grew to be Time’s burst of dawn. He ■ .lined aa world, he gave i world It’s greatest lesson: “On! sail on!” October the 12th, Thursday, is Columbus Day. The above poem fittingly illustrates the courage and nobility <ff one of the most well-known characters of all history. This day Will be remembered in all the rooms. Mr. and Mrs. Nangle gave a most enjoyable program in high school Friday morning. Miss Royse has ordered some new music 'for the chorus class. Four of Miss Paterson’s pupils sang for the high school program Friday afternoon. The Better-Half program of Friday afternoon was a decided success. It was much enjoyed by both the school and guests. Those who entered school this ' week are: Clyda, Marion and Harley Robinson, from Goshen, and Forest and May Robinson from Cromwell. Victrola and Riley programs were very much enjoyed by pu nils of Miss Patterson, Miss Deardorff, Mrs. Shannon and Miss'Miles, Friday afternoon. The Rickey children withdrew from school this week to move to Elkhart with their parents. The Advanced Cooking class was unable to recite Monday on account of registration day—their class room being used for that purpose. What do the women teachers think of a nominee for president who as governor of one of the most prominent states of the Union, vetoed a bill giving equal pay to all teachers -thus compelling women teachers to work for less than the men teachers? The cooking classes are engaged in the stiidv of cerpals, popovers and canning “And from its station in the * hall a modern timepiece says to dl: ’Forever-never! Never—- ‘ forever!' ” . . ‘ The-above is written in reference to the new; clock which lhe School Board installed in the lower hall. This has been long considered a real necessity and .weryone, teachers and pupils Mike, wear smiles of joy over the new possession. Mr. Bachman has a new pice of James Whitcomb Riley which be will han? on on* of
i the wall of the upstairs rooms. A similar picture should have a place in every school room in since Riley loved And wrote so much for the youth of Indiana. Preparations are under way for the laying out of a volley hall court back of the old school house. The advantage of this game is that as many as care to can play at one time or as many as the space or court will allow. It is played with a ball about the size of a basket ball. This ball is passed back and forth over a net about nine feet high, the aim being to keep the ball from touching the ground. The children are much interested and very, enthusiastic over the Tabernacle Booster meetings. Report of attendance and punctuality for the first month ending October 6, 1916.
