Glamorous Modes For Early Easter Reflects Returning Prosperity
Spring Song of Fashion Gay with Color; Feminine Modes
THE LILT OF SPRING, the fresh beauty of youth, and the romantic air of past centuries, are combined in a glamorous Easter mode that brings back pre-war luxury in modern and daring colors, Carr v fog on the dual trend in the mode, which seems so per ecth’ suited to today’s busy women, 1937 brings back the tailored suit costume as a classic m every woman’s wardrobe. And, for beauty and contrast, the otngi
leading fashion" trend turns definitely feminine, with a romantic . air of “southernbel’.e” and Camille fashions that are the delight of the very young and flattering to the more mature. There is an i.ir of youthful abandon in the swinging grace of the new frccks, the high shoulders, puff sleeves and daring low necklines. And there is a casual and pleasing effect in other frocks, showing the very new lower waistlines, and modi-; tied skirts. I MADCAP” ROMANCE IN NEW FASHIONS Pushing h"ck her li'tle hat, tilt-

NEW YORK—America’s wo- i men are busy checking the flood < of coronation fashions. But in i their attempt not to miss a sing'e naw thing, they have probably overlooked the fact that the coronation is setting fashions for, i their men, too. This is only nat-; ui'al. Matched Colors Distinguish New Spring Costume Catering to the refined elegance and feminine youthfulness of 1937 ftohions, the color wheel gives us a new series of “pretty pastels” and rich-hued dark tones for daytime wear. These contrast with the exotic Mexican or Spanish colors that splash gaiety through the sports mode and give verve to daytime costumes worn by the m'"e daring. Rosy grays and golden beiges are tne season’s favorites, and are especially liked ’with matching accessories of York red, Gypsy yellow, Coronation red, Flemish blue, or one of the gay peasant hues. VEGETABLES COLOR FROCKS Onion white, mustard yellow, lettuce green, pepper red, and othe" ..new colors seem to come from grandma’s own garden in the country. But they are equally sjnart in the city when combined with black, navy or the new “real” browns. LITTLE JACKETS”!, with nipped-in.waistlines, flaring peplums or short boxy boleros, give an air of “little girl” naivete to spring frocks. Princess dresses, in the Tyrolean manner, or with a suggestion of the Empire line in shirred bustlines, are also popular. A “fashion must” in every woman's wardrobe, the jacket frock gives many opportunities for quick changes and variation in the costume. Fitted jackets, mannish
jackets, or others in casual styling a-e all smartly matched or; contrasted to the newer dijesses, i But, for a little more dash, many a smart woman will chopse a Spanish bolero. MAINBOCHER’S BOLERO REDINGOTE j Carrying out the ensemble theme, , the bolero redingeje has become v fashion favorite. Frequently, the bolero is seperate from the redingote, so tfiat by; leaving off one or the the print or pastel frock underneath looks like an entirely different costume. Lingerie necklines, and daintily embroidered or lace-trimmed cuffs give interest to many oi these costumes, especially on ' pastelsheeis. Prints, however] continue to be leaders. And prints appliqued in spaced sprsysj on the plain frock, give a new variation that is charming. PLEASANT FULLNESS OR PLEATS . Lace tnd marquisette or sheers are lovejv this year with their new peasant skirts gathered to snug little bodices, or their pleated skirts swinging from the tight little waistlines. Although worn on; by the more slender woman, they have found their way through the sports mode, into afternoon frocks and evening dresses, and they’re so ycung and so romatie that they will surely be popular all summer. Casual types, favored by many women, are showing the newer and lower waistlines, and definitely slim skirts in which fullness is often concealed in pleats. These models are often trimmed wuh dainty lingerie or embroidery collars and cuffs, jabots of frills, so that they, too, have the fem-» inity of this year’s mode. Fabrics are turning sheer early (his year, with tailored laces, marquisettes, checked romaines, novelty leno weaves, lacy stripes, £ nd softer crepe de chine weaves eadmg in Easter frocks. Shorter Skirts Lower Necks, New Fashion Formula Skirts in spring frocks are gaily swishing in higher altitudes. Street dresses are 13 inches from the floor and sports frocks are cut to 14 inch lengths. With soft draped bfouses, and h ; ph Empire waistlines continuing, Fashion gives us the new low neckLne in daring V-shape or outhful square lines.
