BE ON THE LOOK-OUT FOR COUNTERFEIT COINS Counterfiet money has made an appearance in Syracuse. A local service station operator discovered a half-dollar in his' cash register that was “phoney”, and believes it was handed to him by a stranger who stopped for gasoline. Just how many more of these bogus fifty-cent pieces there are around is not knbwn, but merchants are urged to watch silver money carefully. Where there is one bad piece of money, there are oftinies more. Check your cash carefully and watch strangers, especially those who ask to have money changed. RECEIVING REPORTS ON PHEASANT SEASON Hundreds of reports from Hoosier sportsmen who bagged cock pheasants during the 1 recent three-day open season are being received by the Department of Conservation, Virgil M. Simmons, commissioner, * said today. The reports indicate that the hunters enjoyed their first pheasant season and that many of them took one or more birds. ty reports received from scattered sections of the state, showed that 383 cock birds were taken by hunters and that approximately two thousands pheasants, both cocks and hen, were seen. Hundreds of reports received during the past few days have not been tabulated and a final estimate on the number of birds taken and the number seen will not be available for another week. Cards used in making the reports were distributed through county clerks, game wardens and agencies issuing licenses with a request that the jnformaion be furnished by the hunters. While the reports will not be made by ever'f hunter who bagged or saw pheasants, enough will be received to make fairly accurate estimates. RESURFACED STREETS AT TERRE HAUTE Street railway tracks of an aban doned line in West Terre Haute are being removed and the streets resurfaced by twenty-three WPA workers.

ROADS GET SLIPPERY AS SNOW CONTINUES Snow yesterday caused highways in this vicinity to become very slippery. Motorists are urged to exercise every possible caution while driving during winter weather. Streets in town are very slippery, especially at intersections where people cross. U. S. Route 6 is particularly bad, and the highway commission has started placing gravel on hills and curves. The task is not completed and accidents are quite possible. Holidays usually increase travel and traffic and a little precaution and safe driving may prevent seru» bars here. Let’s keep it a safe Thanksgiving Day. HATCHERIES COMPLETE GAME FISH PLANTING The planting of game fish propagated in the state hatcheries is being completed this week, Virgil M. Simons, commissioner of the Department of Conservation, reported today. The last plants were made from the Bass Lake and Avoca hatcheries. Many thousand bass, bluegills and other game fish specite . have been ■ placed in Indiana lakes and streams > since the stocking program was started in August. Reports indicate |i that the fish planted this year were I larger than the average for past years and that under normal conditions many of them will have attained sufficient size to be taken within a year. Some bass were 10 inches long when planted. Distribution of the fish produced ; in the state hatcheries this year was governed largely by the requests fil- ’ ed with he Division of Fish and Game by conservation clubs and individ- i uals, asking that certain lakes or ! stream areas be stocked.
