ELKHART COUNTY FAIR WILL OPEN TUESDAY
Exhibits, Rides, Amusements To Continue Until Sat* turday Night The 63rd annual Elkhart County Fair will open at Goshen next Tuesday night, Sept. Ist, and continue through day and night until Saturi day Sept. 6th. Many exhibits and modes of entertainment are offered this year and the program for the full week is as follows: On Tuesday night only will be given, a gala performance, of the Hoosier Hop Barn Dance, a show presented by the Columbia Broadcasting System and featuring such stars as Happy Herb, the Harmaniaca, Lib* erty Six, Joe Trimm, Doc and Mike, Sari and Elmer, Fiddler Charlie, Maxine and Gladys, Joy Hayworth and others. This will start at 8:30 daylight saving time. Wednesday afternoon will be the first horse racing events with acts given in between each heat. At night the first presentation of the Sun Bros- circus will be given climaxed at the end of the evening show by a gorgeous fireworks display. Thia program will be repeated also on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, each performance at 8 p. m. (DST). Thursday and Friday afternoon’s races will be fast with many pacers and trotters already entered. At 1 p. m. on Thursday a livestock parade will be held and at noon on Friday will be the auction sale of beef cattle, > A special gala Saturday afternoon show getting underway at 1 p. m. includes the horse pulling contest, two farmer’s sulky races of three heats each, bicycle, mule, pony races and other novelties. A grand spectacle of fireworks will bring the fair to a close on Saturday night. On the midway will be found the Blue Ribbon Exposition of 14 shows and 9 rides. All are clean and entertaining. ■ p , The exhibit stables, barns and display halls are expected to be filled with many displays of livestock, farm products and handiwork. The Elkhart County School band and the Goshen high school band are presenting the musical programs throughout the week.

This week has been • busy one at the South Shore Golf Club. Two good sized tournaments where held. The Pro-Am, Monday and the Ladies Invitational tournament, Tueeday. The Pro-Am waa won by Ervin Nelson, professional at the Culver Military Academy and his two partners Tom Marshall and Tom. Sheehan. They had a best ball score of 63. The team had seven birdies one eagle and eleven pan. Three teams were tied for second place with 66’«. Don Swisher, professional, Studebaker course in South Bend and his two partners, Walter Kroll and Melvin Meek, Don Perry of Maxwelton Golf Club and his partners R. B. Kelly and F- E. Fisher, and myself and two partners, Jim Birr the football player from Indiana and Herb King, Mayor of Kale Island. In the playoff the football player, the Mayor and the hocker shot a nice five on the first hole and were promptly eliminated. The other two teams tied with fours and went on to the second extra hole. On that hole Don Perry sank a nice putt for a three and won second money for his partners. In the Pro-Pro event Fred McDermott and mayself were throe strokes ahead of field. Fred had a 70 and I had a 69. The best ball score waa 64. Second place was won by Don Perry and “Pug* Allen. Don shot a 73, “Pug* a 72 and they had a best abll score of 67. Fifty women played in the Ladies' Invitational tourney. The South Shore Ladies held Tuesday. Ninteen prises for the fifty women and they all had a very enjoyable time in spite of the rainy weather. Mrs. W. H. Droves of the Elkhart C. C. shot the best round of golf of the day, an 87. Second low gross was taken by Mrs. W. Bailey of Ft. Wayne, with a 92, third by Mrs. Scott Snyder with s 93 and fourth place was tied by Mrs. Dewey Lionhart and Miss Leone Berghoff with 94’a. Mrs. Uenhart to from Wakarusa and Miss Berghoff to from FL Wayne. The net prims were won by the following women: Ist C. M. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Geyer visited with relatives ner Topeka, Sunday. Mrs. H. M. Ferguson, Tippecanoe, HLast Friday evening the men of the South Shore Golf Club had a fried turtle dinner. There were ten pounds of turtle meat served at a table of nine and they all decided to have another turtle dinner this Friday. But they also want more turtle for the next dinner. None of them were satisfied with only a pound or so of the turtle.

JESSE BLOUGH SUDDENLY DIES AT HOME IN GOSHEN Jesse Blough, 61, well-known laundry proprietor of Goshen, who is also known here died Tuesday at his home, following a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Blough was a brother of Mrs. Milo Maloy and Mrs. Homer Lewis of Warsaw. He operated the American laundry of Goshen. Surviving besides the two sisters are the widow, two daughters and one son.
