FISH ARE BITING. According to Eugene Holloway, guide, fish were biting on Wawasee this past week. He claims Glenn Wilkinson, son-in-law of G. A. Osborne, staying at the Osborne cottage, and he caught 11 bass before noon Saturday and one after noon. That on Sunday, Bobbie McGill Jr. aged 10, fishing with his father from Indianapolis and Holloway caught a four pound bass. Holloway says they let the boy land it and that he only assisted with the landing net. That they caught in addition to bass and a pike. Mr. and Mrs. McGill are spending their vacation in the Noll cottage. Mrs. Joseph Jefferson and Mrs. Marsh from Wheeling, W. Va., guests at the Spink-Wawasee, went fishing with Holloway and he says they caught five croppies, four rock bass and three bass during Monday afternoon. When the reporter showed some signs of doubt as to these stories, Holloway said not to get excited, he had his liar’s license. ’ J. H. Moore of Cincinnati, 0., took Jiis grandson, Jimmie Stubbs, aged 4, fishing on Wawasee. Jimmie caught 15 fish large enough to keep, blue gills and perch, and his grandfather said Jimmie had many other bites but the fish got away . . Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Stubbs are spending this week at the cottage, the men planning to return to the lake next Saturday. ■—o — - REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS The Journal is furnished with The following transfers of real estate by Houton C. Osborn of Syracuse. The action filed slates that the company is insolvent and that it has closed its Huntington offices. It is said that three fourths of the world’s surplus of wheat is held id the United States. And it is doubtful whether raising the price of bread will help a great deal in reducing the surplus. Miss Martha Ann Thornburg and Miss Mary Jane Lincoln plan to go ti> Camp Huntington on Little Tippecanoe. August 6th, to enjoy a camping party there until August 20th. o — The summer of 1933 has been so fickle so far this year that it is necessary to have both an electric fan and a fireplace filled with kindl'ing in the living room. 0 The really successful wife is the one who greets her husband with a hearty meal instead of a lecture when be comes home. BOOK REVIEW. “He Arrived at Dusk,” by R. C. Ashby (The MacMillan Company). Here truly is diversion. “He Arrived at Dusk” combines the excitement of a, glorious ghost story with the entertainment of a detective yarn. It is an extremely well-writ-ten and rather terrifying book. . On the wind-swept Northumbrian moor, near to the restless sea, stalks a ghost. He arrives at dusk—actually does! Up at “The Broch,” the big house of the Barr family, two men and a woman wait for the horror—which arrives at dusk. Mr. Mertoun, a staid London business man, visits The Broch te inventory its contents, and then stays on for several harrowing weeks. A deepening sense of evil is in the air. The climax, is reached when, on the night of a cold-blooded murder, Mertoun himself actually sees the ghost in the dazzling ray of a near-by lighthouse that flashed in the night. Returning to .London, Mertoun I tells his experience to the first man j who will listen to him— detective-in-spector Ahrtnan. How these two and • one villager free the country-side of its panic and the Barrs from fear or i death -makes exciting, diverting reading. It is good “escape literature. ” The plot is ingenious and full of I action, and the tale is written in a I crisp, vigarous style. This book 1 puts the ghost story squarely on the map again. Mrs. Ballard will review it soon, at her Lake meetings. u DIES IN HOSPITAL.
