When the ones in use are uj to date? If you do not join with the Farm Bureau which is helping in th« fight started by Governor Leslie, tv continue the use of the present school books. The Farm Bureau has left peti tions in stores in Syracuse, and at the office of the Journal, to be sign ed before Saturday evening, by anj voter who - refuses to be forced to, spend $750,000 unnecessarily next year. In his statement. Governor Leslie scores the various school book companies for their methods, and asserts that they have been harrassing members of the state board of school book commissioners until he is find ing difficulty in inducing them to remain on the board. The Slate board of education ha* advertised that ft will receive bids or six classes of school books on Jan, 5, this year, instead of in March, as has been the custom. It will require quick work of objectors to sign petitions against any change in book*, before Saturday, for the Farm Bureau to send these to Indianapolis in time to save parents of school children more than $750,000 next Mr. and Mrs. A. Martin of Evansville spent the holidays at the home of Mrs. Martha Jorden and Mrs. Eorrest | Snepp. „ Mrs. James Peffley and daughter Miriam spent Christmas week in Bristol, visiting the home of Mrs. Peffley’s brother, J. R. Jarvis. They returned to Syracuse Sunday. Greeley Yoder was able to leave the hospital in Warsaw, Monday, to return to his home. He had been ill in the hospital, with an infected arm for more than two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Ginther of Michigan City and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hoelcher of Goshen, and families, were guests at the J. U. Wingard home, Sunday. Mrs. Ginther remained for a week’s visit. Guests who spent last week end with Miss Becky Stone were Miss Esther Caldwell, student at the University of Illinois; and Dr. Turner and Mr. Pherris, instructors at the Univesity of MinnesotaMrs. B. B. Morgan, of Chesterton, and Mrs. Peny Ort and baby daughter, of Chifrubusco, were guests of Mrs. Sol Miller, Monday. Mr%. Morgan remained fqr a visit here this week.
