CHURCH HAS HOME-COMING DAY Thirty-one years after its founding-wuSyracuse, the United Brethren church had a re-open-ing and home-coming service Sunday, following the re-decora-t ion of the building. Dec. 9. 1898, the church, under the Rev. Love, had been dedicated. At that time there were 18 assumed a debt of $2200. Os the charter members, Mr. and Mrs. Omar Darr of Benton were the only ones who attended Sunday’s services here. Mrs. Mary Rentfrow’ Hamp of Elkhart, Ind., and Mrs. Oria Rentfrow Vorhis, living in New Carlisle, were former church members present for the all-day service. The church has just been redecorated and beautified at a cost of $650, the Ladies Aid paying for the painting and purchase of new rugs. John Yoder is enjoying his new radio. Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Bauer were Elkhart visitors Monday. The Order of the Eastern Star held its regular monthly meet:ng in the lodge rooms last night. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rapp and Mrs. Nelson Miles were Fdrt Aayne visitors Saturday. Fred Hinderer and Russell Hinderer made a business trip to Goshen Tuesday. Mrs. Sailie Druckamiller and children have returned home from Everett, Wash. The Nelson Byland family moved their household goods to Warsaw yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Strieby spent Sunday at the home of Mrs. Sarah Doering, in Elkhart. Mrs. Clara Holloway entertained the bridge club at dinner last Friday night. Master Dallas Cox stayed last Thursday night with Wallace Baugher. Eldon Barhtolomew spent Sunday evening with his father, and Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Coy. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wright and daughter were Sunday guests of his parents at Cromwell. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Howard of Goshen visited Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Searioss. Lester Lantz and family of Benton spent Sunday at the home of James Isabell. Mrs. Mattie Fawley has gone south from Warsaw, to spend the winter in Daytona, Fla. Merritt Lung caught a seven pound pike through the ice on Lake Wawasee, Thursday. Election of officers, and the exchange of Christmas presents will feature the meeting of the Pythian Sisters tomorrow night. William Barker left for Minneapolis. Friday morning, to stay with his son there. His son is a railway detective. Vernon Beckman combined a business and pleasure trip to Ft. Wayne last Wednesday and Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Pletcher have moved from their former home on Lake street to the Bender property on Huntington.

School Notes — — ! Every one is invited to attend the play being given Friday afternoon, Dec. 20, at 2:30, by the High School chorus. The play is “ A Christmas Child Comes In,” taken from the -story by Zona Gale. Miss Lucile Henwood is directing. Thursday and Friday of next! week are final exam days, for the closing first semester of school. Friday evening starts the Christmas vacation. The cafeteria will not be open those last two days. Alice Coy’s hand painted poster won the contest given by the Freshman English class last week, and was posted on the bulletin board. Other posters for “Good English” week’s contest were hung in various class rooms throughout the building. Two plays were given last Friday morning, “Leave It to Phyllis,” and “Billy’s Coming.” Mary Druckamiller entered the Sophomore class and Leonard, the seventh grade, last Thursday. They were transferred from Everett, Wash. Romaine Coy has withdrawn from school. A number of absences have been reported, caused by vaccinations. But Evelyn -Strock, who was out the longest on account of illness, two weeks, returned to school Monday.
