EAGERLY AWAITED ZEP DISAPPOINTS CROWDS Hundreds of people from Syracuse and vicinity were disappointed Wednesday, when the Graf Zeppelin, which they had hoped to see, changed from the course it was expected to take, and did not follow the air mail route near Benton. When the radio news from Chicago announced the big airship’s departure from there, late in the afternoon, cars laden with owners and their friends, drove rapidly to a point between Benton and Goshen, stopping one after the other, along the side of the road. In some places the machines were parked double and the occupants jumped out to have a better view of the sky. And then—cars began coming away from Goshen with the news that the Zeppelin had passed off to the north, over Michigan. there followed a starting of engines and turning of cars, to join in one long procession headed home. n A classified ad will sell it.

FARMEJHR6EII (Confined from Page One) ces which is rapidly approaching the legal rate of interest: “If you. as a taxpayer, after due notice of time and place of meeting and of the intention to spend certain amounts of tax money for definite purposes, fail to attend this important meeting and question all items you do not understand, then your advisory board has a right to accept your absence as an approval of its appropriations and the necessary tax levies to meet them. “It is the rankest nonsense to say “its no use. to go because they’d do as they please anyway.” It is true you might be ignored, but it is very, very unlikely. “The trustee and his board are as human as you, and will welcome assistance in solving difficult and unpopular problems. If ignored or disregarded, you may then join with ten or more taxpayers who pay other than poll tax only and file an appeal to the state tax board for a review of the action of your advisory board. All said about township
trustees and advisory boards will apply with equal force to county officers and the county council,’ he asserts. j A friendly conference of taxpayers with the county council ' of Dubois county last September resulted in cutting the county, t a x budget $32,000. asks this question: “Isn’t it about time fdr-farmers and other taxpayers to quit growling about taxes and do something about them? Farmers have a real farm bureau in nearly every county, one of the objects of which is to fight unfair and ex- ! travagant taxes. It challenges every other interest or organization in the county to join with it in a careful consideration of all tax matters whether county or township to the end that taxes may be reasonably, equitable and just,” he concludes. — o 7 —* 1 Th ; s is a good time of year to pay your subscription, if it is due.
