It passes over the heating element over the humidifier and flows out the top in a steady stream. The outer cabinet keeps the air close to the heater until it is thoroughly wanned and moistened. The action is the same as a warm air furnace, and its efficiency is surprising even to its designers. It does the work of three or four stoves. Wipe and dust it carefully, fill yoijr oil can with kerosene, oil every part and run it vigorously without thread until well loosened up. Then oil with good quality of machine oil and go over all the parts again. Wipe and clean carefully, stitch on scraps until the thread is perfectly clean, and as a final precaution, tie a bit of wool on the presser foot above the needle to prevent any oil from running down in the work.
TERRIBLE TOLL IN MINING Every ten calendar days ap-* proximately sixty-three lives are lost in the coal mines and fourteen in the metal mines of the country, according to official reports received by the United States Bureau of Mines. Nearly half of these accidental deaths result from falls of the mine roof. The killing of more than 1.200 coal and metal miners every year by falls of the mine roof constitute problems in thj/inining the tSates. It is found that nwjgt of these accidents ocCu £/Wcause roofs are not proJjfmy supported due to eagerness to save expense and get the coal. The sacrifice of 1,200 human lives each year is little less than criminal and should not be permitted.
