Coach Max ■ Lorber had exactly 126 yearlings i to report and following nearly 1 two weeks of scrimmages and ; drilling sessions -where the freshn«n had an equal chance to exhibit their best knowledge of the game, the Crimson mentor mode his initial elimination. Coach Lorber now has on the squad 56 candidates. Additional cuts will be made but not until every man has been able to display his best basketball. Harlan Logan, allconference forward at Indiana last year who is now assisting Coach Everett Dean with the varsity, will aid Lorber in the remaining eliminations'. The cutting of the squad will last through a period of at least two weeks. Those eliminated will not be dropped permanently but will revert to the intramural squad, and as their playing improves. Coach Lorber will recall them for another chance to make the grade. About 25 players will finally make up the freshman contingent. Eliminating those who lacked; the necessary quality of basket-1 ball has been a task for the Indiana freshman coach- Not a single player had played less than two years, according to their report cards. Some possessed pedigrees as long ,'as the League of Nations canvenant and they ranged from an “allcity” choice to a place on “all- 1 state” selections. Coach L rber is highly pleased with nis list of The freshmen will see action several times each week against Coach Dean’s varsity quintet v thereby increasing their knowledge of the college style of - play.
