SUICIDES AFTER 46 YEARS || John Wilkes Booth, assassin at- - or of Abraham Lincoln, lived for fortv years after his crime, ac- - .cording to the Rev. John Wesley Potter, Kokomo pastor. The man shot in Garrett’s bam on the night of April 26, 1865. twelve d n ys after the as’’’ssinntion of Lincoln, and who died before dawn on the front porch of the Garrett home, was not Booth, the pastor declared. 1 “The man who was killed was Gerald (Ruddv) Roby, one of the several persons who were assisting Booth to escane.” the Rev. Potter said. "Booth escaped and fled bevond the Mississippi river into Texas, thence into South American countries. He finally returned to the United States, living at various places, and committed suicide in Enid, Okla., in 1903, almost forty years'after Lincoln was shot."
