Schneider Trophy Sought by Three Nations

This in the Schneider international trophy for which America. Great Britain and France will compete In a seaplane nice at Baltimore on October 24. It was won last year by Lieut. Dave Rittenhouse, United States navy, who also is shown in the illustration. He . will be one of the contenders this year.

Two of the largest coast defense guns in the United States uere tried out at Fort Tilden. Kockawuy point, the her day. The guns are of 18-1 nch bore, and hurl a projectile weighing 2.400 pounds. The only other Id-inch guns »ed for coast defense are In the Panama Canal Zone.

Comrueruoratlng the services of the nuns of the battlefields of thb Civil war. a monument was unveiled la Washington under the auspices of the women's auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. The monument contains broase figures of aunt in relief, and the unveiling represents 12 years of effort on the part of the organisation. A huge throng of persons, thousands of which were in Washington for the convention of the Holy Name society, pothered about the monument while Cardinal O’Connell of Boston addressed them.
