Needed Bad. Syracuse needs a commercial organization the worst possible way. We need an organization that will do something to meet the demand for houses. There are dozens of families that would have come to Syracuse in the past six months if they could havegueceeded in finding a suitable dwelling. We need an organization that will boost some kind of trade-drawing proposition. Farmer trade within \two miles of our town are going some place else where special inducements are held out to purchasers. We need an organization to look to the development of our industrial life, to the'beautifying of our town and to the securing of concessions from various corporations with whom we deal. The substance of the whole mutter is this. “United 'we stand, divided we fall.” Evangelical Church Sunday school at 1 9 GO, preaching at 10:4a. David Jones who moved to Goshen two years ago has sold his residence there and will return to Syracuse this fall. He will again assume the management of the hotel which has been under lease to James Brissel and Susan Searfoss. Buys Quality Drug Store Tuesday, A. M. Caulkins acquired possession of the Quality Drug Store formerly conducted by R. J. Drew. Mr. Caulkins is a registered pharmacist of 30 years experience and has owned drug stores in Columbus, Ohio, Chicago and other places. He has no family but intends furnishing several rooms for his individual use He has in mind a number of improvements which will add to the attractiveness of his place of business. Mr. Drew has no definite plans for the future and will remain in Syracuse for the present. Will Move To Ligonier Dr. G. 0. Smith who recently sold his veterinary practice here will move to Ligonier in about two weeks. While Doc is wrong politically that is about all that anyone can hold against him. He has a host of friends here who regret his departure and who will wish him all possible success in his new field. He has established a reputation as a successful veterinary in this vicinity and undoubtedly will receive due recognition in the Ligonier field. His successor, Dr. Maurice Blue, is a son of Ben Blup of east of here. He is a gradual of Indiana College of Veterinary and is well equipped for his chosen profession. Assessor’s Report Auditor Mock has furnished the Journal the following unofficial reports of the assessment of Turkey Creek township and Syracuse. In the township the real estate valuation was $527,675; improvements, $134,700, value of lake lots, $80,700, improvements on these, $108,190. In Syracuse the real estate was assessed at $74,230 and the improvements at $249,430. This is exclusive of the B. & 0. and Sandusky Portland Cement Co’s valuation. Hitch-Racks Business men will attend the town board meeting in a body next week to protest against removal of the hitch-racks from the streets. We need hitch-racks in convenient places and we also need an ordinance governing the parking of autos on the main thoroughfares. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Edmonds, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Harkless, and son, Kenneth, and A. J. Thibodeaux were guests, Sunday, of Mr and Mrs. D. S. Hontz, of near Churubusco. Mr. Hontz has fifty acres of onions under cultivation. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Linch, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Martin, Wake Wilt and family and Emil Anglin, of Nappannee, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hettinger, Sunday. Thomas Clayton of Milford, well known here, passed away, Friday, following an illness of two years duration from Brights disease. He was seventy-seven years of age. A widow and six sons survive. Friends of Mrs. Guy Pollard have received the inteligence that Mr. Pollard has secured employment in Anderson, and Mr. and Mrs. Pollard are preparing to start house-keeping there. E. E. Miles and wife of Papakeechie, spent Sunday at the Sam Searfoss home. Country life seems to agree with Ed for he states that he is in better health than in many years. Wayne Holhcer fell and severely cut his fore head just above the temple, Monday. He was brought to a kcal physician’s office where the wound was dressed. Chas. Musser and family of Benton and Mrs. N. P. Altland, motored to White Piegon, Sunday. They were called there by the critical illness of a cousin, Will Musser. Victims of the whooping cough epidemic in town vary in age from the tiny babe to persons three-score years and ten. Under the supervision of the pastor, Rev. Valbracht, a Luther League was organised at the Lutheran Church last Sunday evening. Mrs. Clara Welbaum of Cleansville, Wis., and Mrs. Geo. Miles of Syracuse are visiting at the home of Mrs. Frank Younce. —A. W. Robinson’s here Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 27, 28, and 29. Mr. Dari Wood and wife contemplate moving to Lake Wawasee for the summer. E. W. Hire and son, Millard, Orrin Klink, and Lonnie Searfoss were in Elkhart, Thursday, in the interest of the band. Allen Hosbaw, living north of town, is very ill with sciatic rheumatism.
