This • nt m remarked that he believed that less than SIOO a year was sent fr >m Sturgis to mail-order houses. W hat a magnificent town we would hi.ve here if Syracuse people were of this disposition. Any person who can say that 1 e buys all his needs in Syracuse should be proud ol the fact. Our town is getting be. ter every day. Keep it growing bj shopping in Syracuse. THE UNSYMPATHETIC JOSHER here is a time for joking and a tis a for seriousness but some peopl never seem to get these occasi '<s rightly sorted. Nothing le es a worse impression on a perse than joking at the wrong time. W base heard people telling of so le unfutunate circumstance’ th c was a near tragedy to them at ’ le. t and we have seen the look of j ai oyanee pass over the talker’s: fa when someone near made light ! 1 of de matter. A joke is enjoyed ; in is proper place but it makes ej nies when perpetrated at the wi ug time. AN INSTRUCTIVE ARTICLE While Not all the reasons adve ed in the article in another co nn are applicable to Syracuse m • hants, some may be taken to he rt and actions shaped according y. Home buying is on the increase here and every merchant sh'-uld shape his plans to keep it in< rasing. TRAINS 5 AND 6 IfflSW HERL President Willard Stops Oh Here And Confers With Local Agent H. W. Buchholz, agent of the B. &O. Ry., inforrhs us that in ar interview with the president of the company, Monday, Mr. Willard aknOwledged receipt of a petitioi from the citizens of Syracuse with reference to train facilities and promised to give the matter immediate attention. It was suggested that trains No. 5 and 6 be made a stop here which would give Syracuse as good if not belter facilities than under the previous schedule. No. 5 goes west in the morning at :55 and would make connections with the milk shake at Milford Junction for local points west. No. 6 arrives here at 8:45. Mr. Buchholz thinks this arrangement will be put into effect within a few days. The only regret the editor has is that a promise was not secured for the new passenger station that has been hanging fire for several years. The old shack that has been giving service for 40 years outlived itt usefullness ten years ago. — —Buy your Christmas present. , of the M. E. church committee, No. 1, at Mrs. Frank Klink’s. ‘ Say Boys? Want to go war? Os course yot do if you are anything like the average healthy enthusiastic young American lad. How many times have you dreamed about a leading a gallant company on to victory? In your fancy you cm hear the roar of the shells, the rattle and clatter of the swords, the shouts of victory and all that suit of thing, s BUT— If you want a real true-to-life il- j lustration of what modern warfare is, just get up about four o’clock on cold, damp, foggy morning walk ten or u elve miles to a bit of swampy land, dig a trench till your back aches, let the trench fill with water until it reaches your waist. Then stand in this cold, freezing water all day and all night with nothing to eat and nothing to drink but the inurkey water while the rest of ti e boys throw- stones at you. Doesn’t sound so nice and glorious, does it? But that’s only about one-tenth as bad as real war would be. — Place your order early for a Xmas tree at Kindig & Co. Monoquet Mn.
