Sam Akers, Jr., informs us that Fred Hoch made a trial trip in the junk wagon last week with a view to purchasing it. We do not vouch for this however, as our information is not very reliable. Dr. Bair and Dr. Shults of Chicago, were the guests of Melvin Whistler and family Sunday. Dr. Bair’s folks used to live here about 25 years ago in the property occupied now by A. M. Younce.' Dr. Bair’s father was then pumping- water for the B. & O. R. R. The United Charities Association of Chicago are asking the people of Syracuse to give some of the children of the more destitute homes of Chicago a two weeks outing, beginning July 9. Call or write the Journal Office. 9t3 The eldest daughter of Roily Neff, who lives sodthwest of New Paris, is dangerously ill. It will be remembered that Mr. Neff’s bam was destroyed by fire last week. In a certain barnyard there were two hens, one of which when she laid an egg cackled because she knew she had . a good thing and wanted others to know it. The hen believed in advertising. And many were the breakfasts her enterprise supplied. When the other hen laid eggs she disdained to cackle ‘What’s the use?’ she said. ‘Everybody knows I lay eggs.’ And she cackled not. One day the owner of the hens by accident discovered the nest of the noiseless one, full of eggs, but they were too old to use and immediately he cut off the head of the hen that refused to be ‘modem’ and advertise.”
