Mffl PRESENT ATDEDICATION New Knights of Pythias Building for Town of Warsaw. BANQUET IS WELL ATTENDED Grand Chancellor John Gaither Exemplifies Secret Work—Large Class of Candidates Initiated In the Page Rank. Warsaw. —The new temple of Forest Lodge No. 46, Knight of Pythias, was dedicated here. The services were conducted by the officers of the lodge tn the presence of between 300 and 400 members of the order. Grand Chancellor Gaither, Grand Outer Guard Frank Hellar and District Grand Chancellor W. J. Dillingham took part. Invitations had been sent to all the lodges < in northern Indiana and several visitors were entertaiaed. Between 200 and 300 knights attended the banquet. Many gathered at Pythian home and witnessed the exemplification of the new secret work by the grand chancellor. A large class of candidates was initiated in the page rank. The new Pythian home in this city is one of the finest in Indiana. It was •built for a residence at a cost of $3)0,000 and was the finest in the city. k Breeders Elect Officers. Noblesville. —The two days’ meeting of the Hamilton County Draft Horse Breeders’ association adjourned. The following officers were elected: President, T. E. Beals; vicepresident, Thomas B. Lindley; treasurer, Alvin Foulke. The sessions were devoted to addresses on various phases of the draft horse situation by Wayne Dinsmore of Chicago and W. S. Corsa of White Hall, 111., known as America’s king of horse breeders. Both speakers urged breeders to give more attention to this industry, saying that 4t was profitable and. pleasant. In the scoring contest, conducted for the benefit of high school boys, there were 100 participants, and prizes were awarded to Glen Gunning. Charles Phillips and Thomas Wheeler. The meeting was attended by wellknown horse breeders from Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky and lowa. Wires From City of Mexico. Richmond. — Mrs. Sarah Wrigley of this city received a telegram from her son, Roy Wrigley, sent from the city of Mexico, that he had been held in the Mexican capital throughout the nine days’ battle, but escaped without receiving any injuries, although the hotel where he remained throughout the long fight was directly in the path of the fire of both rebel and federal batteries. He arrived in the City of Mexico the first day of the battle, en route to a point south of the capital, but after the fight began was not permitted to leave the corporation limits. Connersville Officer Dies. Connersville. — Jacob S. Clouds, treasurer of this city, died after an illness of about three months. The deceased served for eight years as city clerk before assuming the office of city treasurer. He was promiient and active in lodge work, enjoying a wide acquaintance throughout the state. He was a member of the Masons, Odd Fellows, the Odd Fellows Encampment and Modern Woodmen. The widow and three children survive. Kills Wife and Himself. Richmond. — Word was received by relatives from Washington that Louis S. Watt, formerly of Richmond, killed his wife with a razor while in a homicidal mania, then killed himself with the same weapon. The tragedy occurred at the Watt aome. Watt was a dining car conductor. He was formerly a clerk at the Arlington hotel, this city, when, It was owned by his uncle, J. P. Iliff, pne of Richmond’s prominent citizens. Four Seek Probecutorship. Valparaiso.—Anticipating the passage of the law giving Porter county a separate circuit court, Walter Fabing, Democrat; Frank Parks, Progressive; Ray Marine, Republican, and Mark Rockwell, Socialist, have inaugurated a four-cornered fight for prosecutor. Praises Abraham Lincoln. South Bend. —High praise for Abraham Lincoln, whom he declared to be the highest development of the American politician, was given by former Gov. Richard Yates of Illinois in an address before the South Bend Knife and Fork club. Nearly 500 members of the club heard Mr. Yates and Owen R. Lovejoy of New York city, general secretary of the national child labor committee, who spoke on “The Social Effects of Child Labor.’’ Death Calls Joseph Betzold. Richmond. —Joseph Betzold, a member of the metropolitan board of police commissioners, died of pneumonia, flowing injuries received two weeks agio. His body was buried with full military honors by the local G. A. R. post and the police department. In 1879 Betzold became a member of the Richmond police department. Edwin Berkey attended the Purdue Short Course at diddlebury, Tuesday and Wednesday, an visited with Bert Berkeys and John Carper and spent one day at Mongo with Samuel Carper before returning home. . L, A number of the neighbors and friends of Jacob Linderman gathered at his home, Saturday evening and gave him an old fashion birthd surprise. A well prepared supper was served and the evening was spent in conversation. All departed at an early hour wishing Mr. Linderman many more happy birthdays to come. The schools'of Jackson Township closed Friday to celabrate patrons, day at New Paris High School. They went with well filled baskets and enjoyed a programe in the forenoon at id after dinner the figuring contest was held. The bride is an accomplished young lady and is held in the highest esteem by her large circle of friends here, while the groom is a hustling young business man and worthy of the prize he has won. John Henry Andrews, a life long resident of Kosciusko county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Andrew Miller, aged 77. A veteran of the 13th Indiana. Ligonier’s Plan. The businessmen of Ligonier have hit upon a plan to boom their interests. It is in the shape of a market day. They furnish the auctioneer without expense to the seller, who may bring in any article he wishes to dispose of. Things like this are very helpful to a town.
