Entered as second-class matter May V, 1908, at the post office at Syracuse, Indiana, under the Act of Congress oj March 3, 1879. Did you ever stop to think that the fellow that you dislike, may be a pretty fair specimen of a man, after all? if you are prejudiced against a man, talk to him, not necessarily about your differences, but on other subjects, and you may find that your opinion of him may have been erroneous. A lot of good can be done by getting together. We should like to see a peddler’s license, or something of a like nature, taken out by the travelling machine shop that visits our city at intervals. We have several good machine shops in Syracuse that are paying wages and taxes, and otherwise benefiting the town. We have no quarrel with the strangers who are doing the work, but our home industries should be supported. The Wawasee Protective Association has sent out a financial report to its members that speaks well for the ability of the organization’s officers. As its name implies, its purpose in existing is promotion of the good of Wawasee Lake. We are sorry that more of our citizens’ names do not appear on the list of members; This organization should have the hearty co-operation of

everyone interested in the welfare of our water interest, and probably with a little inquiry into its purposes and accomplishments this interest would be manifested. There will probably be some adverse comment on the law regulating shade trees, which appears elsewhere in this issue, but if you will take a good square look at it without prejudice, you will be able to plainly see its good qualities. Quite a bit of expense has been incurred by the board in lighting the streets, and this expense would be all for naught if the present state of the shade trees should continue. Also, the man of average heighth passing down some of our streets finds some difficulty in saving his hat and what little hair his wife has left on his head. Overhanging branches also have a tendency to keep the road wet and as a consequence full of ruts. A judicious trimming of trees will save all of this. Warsaw Woman Gets Divorce.
