George Colwell and wife saw “Ahauserus” at Winona Friday evening. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Cory, Wednesday, Aug. 9. Miss Ada Stough, of Elkhart, is spending a week’s vacation with her parents. Mrs. Louise Bunger and Mrs. Winters and daughter were at Goshen Friday. Mrs. Maud Kavanah of Elkhart is visiting her parents, Dan Searfoss and wife. Miss Mariebel Miller, of Chicago, is spending a few weeks with Mrs. Frank Greene. Wayne came Tuesday evening to visit Wm. Darr and wife. A. L. Shippley, of Albion, was the guest of his daughter, Mrs. A. H. Fisher, and family Sunday. James Waltz left Monday evening for Ohio City, Ohio, to attend the funeral of his grandmother. Mrs. T. H. Clemens left Saturday for Kenton, Ohio to spend two weeks with Mr. Clemen’s people. John Sh.eck, wife and daughter, Cleo, went to Elkhart Thursday, Mr. Sheck returning the same evening and the others remaining until Friday evening. John Buhheit and family returned Tuesday, from Worster, Ohio, where they have been for a week since the burial of their son. Junior, at that place. Mrs. Tom Willard and son, Francis, returned to Elkhart Monday after a few days visit here. Her brother-in-law, Leo Jahn, accompanied her home. Mrs. Lincoln Martin and daughter, Helen, of Milford, came last Tuesday to visit Dan Searfoss and wife. Mrs. Martin went back Saturday but Helen stayed until Monday. Mrs. Bender and son, Arthur, Mrs. B. F. Vorhees, Bert Ward and wife, Nicholis Steinmetz and wife, Miss Carrie Smith, John Gordy and Cui Grisamer were at Goshen Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Brown of Warsaw, were t>e guests of Fred Hartman and family over Sunday. Margaret Beck was home from Goshen over Saturday and Sunday. Miss King accompanied her home. S. C. Lepper attended the aviation meet at Chicago Tuesday and witnessed the death of one of the aviators Rev. R. L. Ayers’s mother, of Kokomo, and sister, Mrs. Moon, and children are visiting Rev. Ayers and family. Wm. Jones returned from Ft. Wayne Tuesday to get the school house in readiness for the opening of school. He had been there all summer doing carpenter work in the Ideal automobile factory. I am going north to Central Michigan to look at land there. Anyone wishing to join ns be at Syracuse Monday, August 21, to take the 6:15 a. m. train west or meet me at Milfotd Junction. Henry H. Doll. Horse and Carriage Stolen. A valuable driving mare belonging to Wm. Mellon was stolen from the hitch rack here Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Mellon drove to Syracuse in the early evening and tied their horse at the hitch rack near the Church of God. When they were ready to go home and went for their horse about 10:30 she was gone. They at once started a search for the animal and on Sunday forenoon Sheriff Kintzle, Mr. Mellon and Jesse Shock from the peculiar way the mare was shod traced her four mile northeast of Ligonier, and there they lost all trace of her. Sheriff Kintzle returned to Warsaw Monday, but Mr. Mellon and Shock continued the search until Wednesday, but no clew to her whereabouts was found. The horse was Pitched to a nice rubber tired buggy and had on a new set of harness. If the outfit is not recovered Mr. Mellon will suffer a loss of considerable money as he had been offered S3OO for the horse alone. Given Birthday Party. A birthday party was given for Lena Ward Thursday night, August 10th. Those present were Eva Hibschman, Ruth Launer, Ethel Cobb, Anna Doremire, Ethel Ott, Mary Ott, Vera Akers, Blanche Wilkinson, Clara Jackson, Virgie Ward, Herbert Launer, Clee Younce, Alva Ketring, Clee Hibschman, Floyd Kitson, Allen Stnith, Roy Lingofelter, Walter Ott, Charles Schuder, Robert Hamilton, Curt Knox, Wilbur Wilkinson, Harry Coy, Iva Doremire, Clinton Bushong. Atlee Doremire, John Cobb Alva Cobb, Larva Davis, I. O. Cobb and wife, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Younce, and John Ward and wife. Ice cream and cake were served. All left at a late hour reporting a good tiine. Hontz Family Reunion. The Hontz reunion was held last Wednesday •at the home of Mrs. Julia Hontz north of Cromwell There was a good attendance and everyone present enjoyed the day very much. Dinner was served on the lawn after which a short program was rendered, consisting of music and speaking. Among the enjoyable features of the day was a talk by E. D. Messimore who with his family was pressnt. It was decided to hold the next year’s meeting at or near Jones’ on Lake Wawasee if permission may be obtained. Farm For Sale. The farm known as the Leander B. Eagles farm at Indian Village, 240 acres, will be sold at the office of F. P. Bothwell, Ligonier, Indiana, on Sept. 5, 1911 at 2 o’clock p. m. Misses Alta and Delta Grady called at the home of Jesse Grady Monday. George Tom and family called at the home of his parents, Lyman Tom and wife, Sunday. Carrie Lung who has been employed at the home of George Tom Jr., resigned yesterday. Frank Starner, wife and children Sundayed with the latter’s sister, Mrs. Joe Godshalk and family. Marshall Dye, wife and children, of near North Webster, took Sunday dinner with Clark Gibson and family. Miss Marie Godshalk, of Elkhart, who has been visiting at the home ot Joe Godshalk, returned home Friday. Mrs. B. T. Burnsworth and children and Miss Mae Jones, of Milford, spent Sunday with Mrs. J. W. Miller. Mrs. Dan Warble chaperoned her Sunday School class at a picnic at Butter Milk Point last Friday.
