He expects to return home the first of next week. The Ladies of the M. E. church will hold a market Saturday afternoon at Hire’s meat market commencing at 1:30. Mrs. A. L. Strock, Miss Georgia' and Kennith 'Strock visited rela. ives and friends.at Elkhart from Thursday untill Sunday evening. Miss Maude Willis who has been touring the largest cities of the West, now visiting her params at North Webster, at the request of h-r many friends has consented to give an entertainment at the Opera House, Wednesday, Sept. 21st. This will be the last meeting this year and the or e at which the annual election will be held. There will also be a delegate appointed to attend the state convention held at Fort Wayne in Oct. A young man by the name of Guy Bingham and whose home is at Elwood, Ind. was drowned in Tippecanoe Lake. Tuesday afternoon at about 4 o’clock* Mr. Bing,ham went in bathing some distance from shore with no one near to hel[ him and was seized with cramps v hich drug him to a watery grave. It was an hour or more before the o dy could be located and recovered. I

Mr. Servis of Chicago spent Sunday with Robb Burlingham and wife. His wife accompained him to Chicago, expecting to return to Syracuse today. Mr. Debeau and wife of Long Island who have been visiting here for some time are now the guests of Mrs. Debeau’s sister, Mrs. Getts, at Alexandria. Ed Stametz took his little daughter to Warsaw last week where she will attend school this winter and live with her cousin, Miss Retta Hess. Clara and Lily Klinsick stopped off Friday on their way home from Illinois to spend the balance of the week with Wm. Beckman and family and left Sunday for Toledo Ohio where they reside. A party of Fort Wayne gentle-' men, consisting of H. M. Williams, editor of the sentinel. Gart Shober, editor of the Labor Times Herald and Louise Heilbroner, scout for the Pittsburg and New York National League Base Ball Clubs, are spending the week at Brunjes Park< The Sunday excursion to Chicago was not as well patronized as usual at this point. Among the number that went here weie Harry Culler, Glen Gordy, Lewis Sneider, Fred Hoopingamer, George Colwell, Charles Beery, Lou White, Sam Unrue and Sam Traster. Leo Jahns moved into one of the cottages on Fourth street recently occupied by Harrison Traster. Mr. and Mrs. Traster have stored their goods in Mrs. Ellen Trasters house on Main street. They expect to move to Garrett in the near future where Harrison is looking for a position. Mrs. Harve Hartman who has been very ill with typhoid fever, at the home of her uncle Squire Guard is improving slowly. She was staying with her uncle who has been living on the» John Egbert farm near Benton for several years when they were both attacked by the fever at the same time. Mr. Guard died about three weeks ago and it was thought for some time that Mrs. Hartman could not recover. It is estimated that about 2000 people attended the big day aFMiI- i ford last Thursday. The crowd was i not as big as on former celebrations ; or as anticipated, owing probably to j the in clement weather in the early ; part of the day. They pulled off ; everything they had advertised and I put on a few extras for between I acts. A good many people saw the I balloon ascension which was a very 5 1 nice one from here. j

The Misses Ruth and Mary Miles; visited with their aunt, Mrs. Hattie Smith and family, at Cromwell over Sunday.
