The numerous friends of Miss Lois North will be glad to that she has secured the position of teacher in the first primary grade of the Kendallville schools. Miss North made a good record in the Syracuse schools, and believe she will give good satisfaction m her new place. From the Ashley Times we learn that “Mrs. Cook, night operator, has been superceded by a gentleman. Seniority knocked her out. Mrs. Cook has made many friends here, and it is to be regretted that she cannot remain.” We believe the lady’s Syracuse friends will also regret to hear of her misfortune. Valuable Horse Lost. Harry Clemens of this city hi d the misfortune to lose fits pacer valued at |SOO. The horse was apparently in perfect health Mondav, and it was indeed a surprise to Mr. Clemens when he went to the barn early Tuesday morning to find it dead. It was lying in the stall and there was nothing to indicate any struggle. . ' Upon a thorough examination the only thing foudd was slight valvular trouble of the heart. The horse had been tried out and showed a speed of 2 08 or better.

NORTH WEBSTER North Webster seems to have caught the spirit of improvement, Samuel Miller is having a new concrete sidewalk built past his house and Jefferson Garber, the general supply man, is constructing a concrete barn at the rear end of his place of business. We hope the spirit will be contagious. Mrs. Neff is here from Missouri visiting with her nephew, V. D. Mock, and family. Mrs. Nat J. Kline, who has been confined to her sick bed for some time, is able to attend to her household duties again. Lincoln Scott is 1 building a very spacious addition to his residence. The Rev. and Mrs. J. Chas. Woodmff of the Methodist church attended the Kosciusko County Sunday School Convention in Leesburg Thursday and Friday of last week. Revs. Sherman Powell, Sidney Bennett and Chas. H. Murray were guests of Rev. J. Chas. Woodruff Friday evening. These four Methodist pastors costitute the Goshen District Male Quartette which is to furnish music for the series of conventions to be held in the various Methodist churches of their section of the District from September 22nd to October 2nd. A number of North Webster citizens attended the Red Men’s Pow-Wow at Warsaw Monday. ! Our summer guests are somewhat afraid of the cool weather and are beginning to leave for their homes. Many of their bright faces will be missed until another year when we will gladly welcome them back to our town. Do not forget to ask the Methodist passor what is going to happen in North Webster on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Ask him seon as you may want to tell your friends. Angel, and Jacob Click. Orlando F. Gerard is spending a few weeds in Petoskey, Mich. Four persons were received into the Morris Chapel class of the North Webster Charge M. E. Church last Sunday morning. ! This class now has 102 members. The Rev. D. R. Heil, pastor of the Evangelical Church has been visiting his old home at Royal Center, Indiana, the past-week. Geo. Bom to Mr. and Mrs. Smith Wiseman, on Friday night, a ten pound girl. Miss Caroline Ringgenberg, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Brady, came over from Fort Wayne and spent Sunday with her parents. Miss Julia Boyer is visiting in South Bend for a few days. The North Webster schools will open Monday, Sept. 14th. Mr. Ray Kuhn has been secured as principal for the coming year. He is well known by the citizens of North Webster and is well qualified for the position. Under his management we anticipate a very delightful and cessful school lyear. Mrs. J. C. Boyer has just returned from Detroit where she has been selecting a choice supply of up to date, millinery goods. These new styles will be displayed in her show windows and on her counters for public inspection in the near future. Mrs. Boyer is a specialist in her line and deserves the patronage of a wide constituency. Mrs. Rose E. Junkin and her daughter Irene, have returned from a visit in Indianapolis. Miss Blanche Ritter, a governess in the orphanage at Plymouth, is visiting with relatives and friends. Mrs. Samuel Ringgenberg is being visited this week by her mother, Mrs. Catharine Mignery, and her sister, Mrs. Clara Julliard of Stryker, Ohio. Mr. J. C, Boyer, our genial merchant, is on the sick list this week. OSWEGO Preparations are being made to begin school at this place next Monday. John Heltninger and wife of Goshen are visiting relatives in and near this place. Mrs. Adam Bricker and Mrs. H. H. Dorsey are on the sick list. Mrs. Wm. Kearns is visiting relatives in South Bend. Some of our people attended the Sunday school convention at Leesburg last week and report a good time.
