WALKER & FANCIL, Printers and Publishers Application Jor. entry as second-class matter at the post office at Syracuse, Indiana, pending. The Candidates. FOR SHERIFF. I hereby announce that ‘I am a candidate for Sheriff of Kosciusko county, subject to the decision of the Republican County convention. ORANGEL CORY. FOR TOWNSHIP TRUSTEE. I hereby announce my candidacy for Township Trustee, subject to the decision of the Democratic caucus of Turkey Creek Township. s HENRY SHOCK The Congressional Candidates. - ' The Republioan Congressional Convention is called for Tuesday, June 9th, 1908, at Plymouth. Ind. There are two aspirants for Congressional honors, viz: Honorable Jotin L. Moorman of Knox, Indiana, and Honorabli Charles W. Miller of Goshen, Indiana. They are both men of ability, qualified to give the District conspicuous representatioh *at Washington. There are a few facts, howeVer, which should be
carefully considered by the voters before they Jfecxle which of these gentlemeq are their choice. First, Mr. Moorman Is of the plain people. He is one of them. He knows their wants and needs He is free from alliances of all kinds and character. He is under no obligation for past favors to any particular interest in the District .and >s in a position to give every inter est, and the people, a square deal. Mr'. Miller is a lawyer of ability. This ability has been recognized by the corporate interest of the District. He is associated with Banking, Railroad, and Manufacturing Cor porations. The Administration is strenuously asking and demanding that various laws be passed concerning these Corporations which are of vital importance to the people. These laws are designed and advocated in the internet of the people. They are to restrict and limit the encroachments of Corporate wealth upon the rights of the people. It cartainly is a vary bad year to nominate a Corporation Attorney to represent the old 13th. ’in the next Congress. No matter how honest and upright, the old obligation is there. It is the hardest thing in the world to look upon old friendship and alliances in an unbiased and unpredjudioed manner. Mr. Moorman is free from the influence. It seems easy to decide which man should be our next Congressman, doesn’t.it? Syracuse Boy Returns From Europe. Audrey “Merrill” Snyder, son of W. S. Snyder of this oity, returned here for. a few days visit with relatives. Audrey has been over some territory since he left here two years and three months ago. He has been touring Europe with the “Three Marvelous Merrills,” the famous trick bicyclists, having been in England, Scotland, Wales, France, Germany, Austria, Holland and Switzerland. The trio have been giving two and three performances a day at the best show houses in, the world. From Audrey’s conversation in general, we would just as leave be in the United States— Indiana and Syracuse preferred—as to be a monarchial subject. But the strange things one sees in the old country would be interesting for awhile. Four years ago the Merrills toured this country, Mexico and Cuba. Democratic Convention Postponed. At a meeting of the chairmen of the counties of the district held at Plymouth on Tuesday the democratic congressional convention was postponed indefinitely. It will probably be held in*July, following the national convention at Denver. Friends of Henry Barnhart, editor of the Rochester Sentinel are urging his candidacy for the congressional nomination. Mr. Barnhart is a splendid gentleman, of clean record and good ability, his paper being one of the best ones in the district, It is said that Hon. B. F. Shively is willing to accept the nomination for the short term, but is unwilling to stand for Afie regular one. Should the democrats control the next legislature he will be a candidate for election to the United States senate. Wawasee Inn Opened. 1 The Wawasee Inn is now open for the season and the Villa is already accomodating a number of guests Mr. Johnson is not only a good hotel manager but is a progressive business man as well. He is enthusiastic when speaking of Wawasee Lake and deplores the fact that so little is’done in the way of advertising this beautiful summer resort. Mr. Johnson is of the opinion that an association should be formed to “boom” the lake and place it where it rightly belongs, in the front rank of the middle western summer resorts. While- Mr. Johnson is, of course, after his share of-the business he is willing Ito take his chances with'die rest and boom the lake iu general. x Patronize your home dealers for what you want that you caA get,""find then they can get you what7 011 want that you can not get.
