MEMORIAL SUNDAY AND DECORATION DAY Comrade C. V. Smith of the Lake • view i’est, G. A. it, informs us 1 that the ostial preparations are being made foe the observance of Memorial and Deoora.ion days by all Organizations of the oity. The ornimittses on speakers, music, parade and general arrange* ■ menta have been appointed. Emory Strieby is to Icok after the finances, and anyone who wishes to ‘ . V contribute to the expense attached to the affair will oonfer a favor by handing him suob suinu as they feel like giving. The Syracuse Band will in all probability furnish the martial musio for the day. Comrade Smith mentioned the fact that the old veterans have expressed the hope that the ciriz*ns of Syracuse and Turkey Creek towrship will institute a peimanent organization known aS the Syracuse Memorial Association, The purpose of snob ah organ zation would be to assume all responsibility in conducting services on Memorial and Decoration days This kind of an arrangement would.be the means of perpetuating the custom of paying tribute to the soldier dead after the few scattered veterans are no longer able to take active part in the work of paying tribute to the memory of their dead comrades. We believe our public spirited citizens should immediately take action upon the suggestion of Mr. Smith. The Journal is ready to give any assistance possible.

TEACHERS WILL BE IN 7 MUCH DEMAND Teachers Will Find no Difficulty in Getting Positions Next Fall - In a Circular letter to the school officials!of the state, calling attention to jibe fact that the demand for who have met the requirements <?f the new school laws, passed by the legislature of 1907, will' be large next Tail, Jhe state superintendent urges officials to impress •upon tile high school graduates the increaspd advantages in becoming school feachers. In order for any one to be eligible to rbegio teaching school after August 1908 he must possess sohol- : arship (equivalent to that of the (graduate of a oommiseioned or of a oertifieid .non-commissioned high school land must have taken at least a prescribed twelvo weeks’ course in an accredited professional tohooi or at tfie State Normal school. The iopportunity offered to young meu and women to teach and at the same time get an education and prepare for better places ought to | bring Hie very best material into 1 the calling. It is hoped that more young men will see fit to prepare themselves for the work. The salaries upder the new law will average about SSO, S6O and S7O per month in the country sohools, depending on the classification. Therefore, it will pay. It may not pay so well in dollars and cents as a few other thing?, but it will ‘pay. In clean happy, service and in tie possibilities of selfculture it will pay wonderfully. And in money it will now give a living. You are urged, therefore, to explain the possibilities of the hew laws so the brightest memberis of your senior class this year anc| to the members of your classes bf past years,— Blytnouth D 9 aoero. & 1 I ■
