[ John Coy was born in Elkhart couutyi led.,. Aug 21., 1838, died at his home in Syracuse, Ind., Jan. 12, 1909, aged 70 years, 4 months and 21 days. The steamer relatives of life were early experienced by the deceased. His mother died when he was but a boy^—ibe home broken up and he went to live with an uncle. On Jan. 25, J 863, he was married 4o Miss Catherine Whistler, and to this union was born one child", Mrs t Ida Medlam. On Sept, 27, 1864 he was enrolled as a membe of the 29th Ind. luf. and went to the front in defense of his country. He received an honorable discharge June 21, 1865 and returned to bis home. Just at what time Bro. Coy enrolled as aMember of the army o the Lord is not known to the writer but for the last 19 years he has been a member of the M. E. church. In the death of brotherQCoy the church has lost an earnest Worker and Syracuse a noble citizen and as brothers in church and arms we say : “Soldier rest, thy warfare o’er < Sleep the sleep that knows no jeering Dream of battle-fields no mote.” Ship 41 ouses to Italy. ' Secretary Newberry jof the navy is completing as fast as possible the general administration program for sending building material to Italy for the construction ofa Sarg& numberof small houses to shelter earthquake sufferers. All red tape has. been waived so that vessel Is may be sent off at the earliest possible mo ment with their loads of material. The first vessel to be loaded will be the Eva. It is estimated that she will hold enough material for about 500 houses. In addition to builing material the Eva will oarry ( , four or five boss carpenters and an Italian carpenter interpreter, who will have charge of construction gangs. In addition to the Eva four or five other vessels will be chart ered as iibe government intends to send enough for about 3000 houses. j
