In conversing with a well knonw citizen the other day, the matter of churches, religion etc, were commented upon and he stated that he had a tendenacy to and wanted to live a better life and was willing to embrace an opportunity to do so at any time. He also stated that he did not belong to any church and sometimes would think he would go and unite with a church, but when he would go and see some of the head leaders of the church be so pious and appear so sanctified, and the next day in their business transactions, not hesitate for a minute to trick and rob some poor man of his entire life’s earnings, and chuckle with glee to hear him beg,—and that churches composed of such professed relegion alone, held him back. Such being the fact, a question arises as to whether or not a man would get any consideration in the hereafter for staying out of a church under such a condition of facts. It ought to be. that there could be a few men in every community, who were devoid of greed, so that

the could live a moral and religious life and conduct their business in an honest straight forward gentlemanly way and be living models for the entire community to strive to follow, as it it a great blow indeed, for a man to picture out his model of a perfect gentleman, and as you grow up and come in touch with him, to find him nothing more than a grand rascal, who would not even hesitate to tear out your very heart to satisfy his greed. Of course there are many exceptions to this trend of thought, which only implies to where you have a blasted ideal, and haven’t you experienced as much.

Kroft, of the 8th street M. E. church Bloomington, will preach Sunday night and will probably assist Rev. Bair in meeting next week.
