j George Gaither returned home from a trip through the west and to the Seattle exposition Monday night. Mrs. Nannie Leonard Miller, widow of John Miller, lives with Mr. Leonard and j is the owner of several pieces of | rental property in Portland. Their residence is situated in wealthiest part of Portland and is considered the finest in that part of town. Mrs. Miller does not look any older than when she left here 25 3’ears ago. James Leonard who used to live on what is now Bennet’s farm one-half a mile east of town, is a retired merchant living in Portland. Jonn Gaither, who is a brother to George, is postmaster at Clay Center, his son. Pressley, is' at Portland and travels for a brewery and gets $175 a month and all expenses paid. The political pot is beginning to boil in Bloomington again. There being an election in November for new city officers. The race for mayor is to be an exciting one, and factions among each party are going around with “butcher knives” mp their sleeves, ready to knife up that “gang over there.” The republicans have their convention Sept. 2nd and will nominate Sam Kerr for mayor—but the sure winner would have been W. A, Fulwider but he refused to accept the nomination. The democrats are getting busy and so sure are they that they will elect a democratic ticket this time, that they are falling over one another trying to get the nominations. Verily this is to be a rough and tumble campaign and each party will be calling the other everything from “highway robbers to boot leggers.”

Royal households receive all manner of beautiful and curious gifts, many of whictyare not accepted. When the Prince and Princess of Wales were about to start on a tour around the world, all sorts of antidotes for seasickness were received. One druggist sent hundreds of anti-seasick powders, one of which was to be taken every day while at sea. The prince said, “If this fellow expects me take all these special powders, he should have sent along a special stomach as well.”

At present the state of Indiana is over-stocked with school teachers. About 10 applications for each position. Trustee Sherlock states that filling the places for the different schools is a trying one and the selections are to be made about Sept 4th. It is announced unofficially that Wallace Anderson, G. W. Hensley and Mary Thrahser will teach at this place. A three year high school course is to be put on at Harrodsburg this year and a number from here will attend.
