These are estimable men and go -out from their Alma Mater grandly equipped for their life work and will no doubt reflect honor upon Indiana's great school A shocking accident happened last Saturday afternoon on the farm of Isaac Grady, 4 miles south-east of town. His 12 year old son, Chauncey was fatally injured. t We learned the tacts which are aa follows. Our Summer Resorts. Sunday morning opened up bright and warm, and everybody was up bright and early getting ready for a visit to our lakes. .Buggies, car riagea and ladies and gentlemen on their silent steeds were to be seen everywhere headed for our beautiful summer lesoits. We made a visit to Jones' Lauding in the morning and found the genial landlord busv preparing to take care of his guests. The Cromwell baud had been engaged to play during the day, and they executed some excellent pieces. lu the afternoon we visited Lake View Hotel, at Black Stump Point, and found landlord Lamb busy looking after the welfare of his guests. H® invited us to tijke a ride on his new boat, Minnehaha, which was Accepted, and found her m staunch steady boat, operated with a gasoline engine, and very speedy. The hotel isb iug weM patronized and fortythree persons took dinner Sunday. The Tuikcy Lake Lots! at Vawter Park is receiving its shore of public patronage. Cedar Beach will soon be ready for business, and under Ihe watchful eye of manager Stimmel, will insure to the pubic and guests the very besL service obtainable. j The Ligouier Base Buli/club came over Saturday afternoon played a very uneven game of ball with the Syracuse Giants. The game was called at 2:30 with Syracuse at the bat. The first ’inning yielded three runs, the second was a blank and iu the third three men crossed the rubber; .-The fourth and fifth yielded two moi e goose-eggs, while the seventh aud eighth each saw a home man cross the plate, while the ninth yielded two more to the score. For Ligonier they commenced drawing goose-eggs up to the seventh inning and that score was a gift by the umpire. In the eighth ai d ninth :hey failed to bring in a score, the game stauding 11 to 1 in favor of tire Giants. The playing of both leafijs was snappy, but the visitors failed to connect with the bail and consequently could not win. The game was devoid of any wrangle the umpire being a professional ball player and hia judgment was firstclasa We hope, the Ligonier ball team will come again. ■ - Ou the evening of July 3rd, the pupils of rifle Bth year grade who successfully passed the regular examination' prepared by the State Board of Education, will read their essays and give such other exercises as have heretofore characterized these assemblages.. It was determined during the past school year to diecont.uue the custom of having “graduating' exercises for this grade; in as much as we have two years more work before the pupil Los completed the school course. The custom had a'tendency to fill some students with false notions of their proficiency besides weakening the tenor of the school. Primarly the exercises were devised as a stimulus for pujils of the District Schools to con- ' tinue in school till they had at least cumplete l a High School course/ ' and when the village schools of the . ! county adopted the plan it wassimpIjr to aid the country schools in making the first step, It is now time to ■ withdraw from the field and allow district 'schools to have the whole field to tfl« maelvrw, free from even j i tb® appearance of competition. The band escorted the teams to the grounds and after preliminary* practice by both teams, play was called by Umpire« Ott No brilliant w ork was done by either teams and the playing was a comedy of errors from start to finish. The game was devoid of any kicking fl/ either club. The visiting team was a strong one, but they were fortunate in bunching their hits while the home nine bunched their errors.
