Dolan, Voluntary Observer for the government Weather Bureau, handed us the following weather report ' for the month just ended, which will be of interest to our many readers. The month x»f May 1896 will ever be known as a phenomenal period among those who take note of the weather or’other physical aspects of nature. During this month there were eighteen clear days, eight partly cloudy and five cloudy, while on eleven days there were precipitations. The total rain fall for the month at this station were thjree and fortythree bund redth inches, making an average of eleven hundredths of an inch per day. The average temperature based on observations made at 7 a. m. and 5 p. iu.. daily, was (»9,j degrees, the lowest being the morning cf the 28th and the highest on the 9th and 10th respectively. The prevailing direction of the wind was south to eoutheast. Lightning and thunder storms occurred ou the 4th, 10,11, 12, 16, 17, 25th and 30th On the night of the”2d there was observed an aiirofa consisting of long brilliant streamers flowing but from a broad luminous base, making a really beautiful spectacle. A petition with upward of fifty signers will be presented to the County Commissioners at the June term asking for the vacating of tha 161 feet road running along the edge of Turkey Lake between Vawter Park and South Park and the locating a public road 39 feet wide between said paiks about 160 ft. eou.h of the old road. The propdaed change will put al»out 70 beautiful lots ou the market and when improved with substantial cottages will place quite a large amount of properly on the tax duplicate of Kcsciusko County, as this kind of property is assessed much higher than fai in property. Bes.dt s the building i>l these cottages will give employment to a large number of laborers and while occupied the farmers iu the neighborhood will find a market for their produce at good prices. Another advantage in the change is the new road being so much wider, it wilDnot be so liable to become impassable in the wiu'.ci with snow drifts as”the old one. The proposed change will make the road shorter and much straighter and the land owners agree to give to the public two strips of land 30 ft wide running from the new toad at the lake Iwsidts there is a public road to the west «nd us the read that will not be ■ vee«ted.
