Mr. Stetler bos been engaged iu busin’ss in this county for many years, and by strict attention to business and i honorable dealings with men has aci cumulated a competency, but beAs not a rich man as many suppose. We quote from the Milford Mail of May T, ‘1896, as follows“ Mr. Sutler solved oce term in the House, and bis many friends claim that accord* ini’to the unwritten rule Le is entitled to a renomination. He was a hard-working member of the last House, and bis honesty and rectitude of purpose was unquestioned. He is a veteran of the old 74th Ind. Keg't; and being from a neighboring township, will undoubtedly receive ’ warm support from Van Buren. The view is held by many hereabouts that if the "norlL part of the county aspect* any political favors it must become united, and that in such a contingency a better man to unite i upon cannot be found ’Lan John W. latctkr.’

I It has been the cusiom to return a reprerentativo the second term, but this rule has been set aside by our county politicians and they have 1 diced a candidate in the field against v Mr. Stetler. : They are trying to un- ’■! e< at. him by {charging that be voted y for lEe famous Nicholson bill, fee - and salary bill, etc, etc. Wo quote r a few passages of an editorial in the Indiauian ol 1 March 11, 1895, as follows:— ‘ Tbe{ session of the Indiana Legislature for the year 1895, closed on Monday by limitation. During the tetm, we have baa but little to - say ou tbw questions that Lave come 1 before that body. For one, we be l ' lieve that our representatives in the law-making branch of the state have performed their duty faithfully and well, and lilic the Indianapolis Journal, we believe that this will be the - judgment of candid and reasonable - mtn, and that they Lave made gcoJ ’ ; ’ the pledges/ made by the majority of •(the party tjo the people in advance of their election, and as the Journal say*, first and foremost, it has been un economical body.., It has made a legislative apportionment which will lumirej a majority in the House to a party carrying the state by 7,tKM) votes i.. It has made an equally ’ fair congressional apportionment.. ’ It has passed a salary act in accord- ! ance with past party pledge?...... In short, ail of the acts of the Legisihture touching pubic ad mi castration in state. county and municipal ity has bbeti to secure better and , more economies! methods --• • / M uch attention has been given to temperance legislation; us the result an act ■ has been passed which received on 1 its final pissage more than two- " thirds of Gie votes of both paities, and conjiquently is in no sense a : political measure It Las been a 1 clean handed Legislature The higher institutions of learning, which have always been aided by the state are placed on a positive ba is, which isTnore economical and in every way better.’’ Many other things fire mentioned which wh have not space to give, but we believe that John W. Stetler s past record will bear investigation, and he will be found to have bijen an 1 honest iyorker fir state and county. We fully believe that he has earned the positioa to which he aspires and we feel confident that he will be re - turned l'v a handsome majority. ... -—■ — o » — OIIITL’ARY.
