The teachers of Tuikey Creek Township met Saturday November 16, 1895, at the School house in Syracuse and the morning Session was opened with a song, by the institute, Mr. Ott the: f<>ok up the chapter on interest iu McMurray's General Method. He showed clearly the difference between a direct and indirect interest, “Direct or true interest iu a subject is that kind which is felt fbi the thing itself, while an indirect interest has something else than the subject as the real source. Percepts autl prizes held over pupils are incentivts to study, produce the indirect interejt ahd ofteber arousS stich feelibgs aS ffride, jealousy, and love of self. -* ' \ ” Miss Hillabcjd to whom language hail been assigned, wag absent. The subject was left until the afternoon session. In. its stead, Miss Holloway read an instructive paper on effects of tobacco. She spoke of its poisonous properlmc nnd said: A thread dipped in the oil of tobacco and drawn through a. wound in an animal would kill it in a few moments. That such a poison taken into the blood would be ruinous to the health, who will doubt? Yet the United States knowing the danger of its use, gives about 400,000 acres of good land to the cultivation of it. The institute adjourned to meet at 1;15 o’clock. ArrgßKoos. After a song the institute discus’sed the topic, of language. Following came a good paper by Miss Wilt upon Acts I and II of Shakespeare’s Henry VIII J A recitation by Miss Smith entitled the Iron Pen. Mr. Hess followed with the reading lesson, ‘Tbapatopsis,’ He spoke of the purpose, theme, embodiment ana figures of the poem. The subject was ably handled. After a rest of fen minutes, Chas. Bachmag recited the poem, “Two Schools I visited.,’ The poem contains a lesson which can be personally applied by the teachers. Arithmetic was then discussed by Mr. Smith. He covered the outline of the work,-. ’ ‘ After assigning the work for the next meeting, the institute adjourned to meet December 14. Ezra Hass, Pres. Chas. Bachman, Sec y.
