Maurice Fidler
Maurice D. Fidler, 75, r 1, Leesburg, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday,- Dec. 9, 1990, in Goshen Hospital, following an extended illness. Born January 1, 1915, in North Webster, he was the son of Fred and Hattie Crouch Fidler. On October 26, 1963, he married Mary Sunday Scott; she survives. A lifetime North Webster area resident, he retired from Monarch Industries, Syracuse. He was a former member of North Webster Fire Department and Lakeland Snowmobile Club. Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Phil Fidler, North Webster; one daughter, Sandra Hill, Warsaw; seven grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by one stepson. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Eastlund-Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Rev. Darrell Crissman officiating. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Goshen Hospital Hospice. Barbara Hasty Barbara Lou Hasty, 54, 3100 Frontage Rd., Warsaw, died at 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8,1990, in Mason Health Care Facility, Warsaw, where she resided since July 5. Born May 13, 1936, in Madison County, she was the daughter of Paul Ashby and Helen Louise Hinton Dickey. A resident of the Fort Wayne and Warsaw areas most of her life, she was a former restaurant manager in Syracuse and had been a courier/driver for Pony Express and a nursing assistant for Home Health Care. She was an auxiliary member of Fraternal Order of Eagles in Warsaw and New Haven. Her survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Melinda) Hall, Warsaw; three sons, Jeff Corn, Leesburg, Perry Corn, Goshen, and Chad Hasty, Warsaw; eight grandchildren; her stepfather and mother, Eugene and Helen Johnson, Auburndale, Fla.; her father, Paul Dickey, Dundee; and one sister, Mrs. Jay (Joan) Ellsworth, Summitville. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Rev. Myron Hinton officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Frederick M. Koeppel
Frederick Max Koeppel, 69,201 E. Greenhaus Dr., Syracuse, died at 3:36 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 1990, in his home, following an extended illness. Born August 14, 1921, in Chicago, 111., he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Lyon Koeppel. On November 1, 1941, he married Mary Juday; she survives. A Syracuse resident since moving from Elkhart in 1983, Mr. Koeppel was retired as a baker and cake decorator for Wilt’s Food Stores, Elkhart. He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Syracuse. Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Judy) Hardy, Syracuse; one son, Fred Koeppel,.Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; and one brother, Joseph Koeppel, Missouri. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart, with Rev. Ken Overmyer officiating. Eastlund-Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse, was in charge of arrangements. Marshall, 45, 11 Shamrock Court, Huntington, died at 6:50 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6,1990, in her home. She was in ill health for two years. Born March 18,1945, in Elwood, she was the daughter of John R. and Vera J. Jarrell Russo. On July 17,1987, in Louisville, Ky., she married James F. Marshall; he survives. • Mrs. Marshall had been employed as bookkeeper at Huntington Herald Press. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose and Eagles Auxiliary, ,all in Huntington. A Syracuse resident since moving from Leesburg, Fla., 5!/ 2 years ago, Mrs. Pattyn was a retired licensed practical nurse. Her survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Pamela) Howatt, Syracuse, and Geri Meek, Toledo, Ohio; four grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; one sister, Mrs. Glenn (Harriett) Biller, Syracuse; and one stepbrother, Randall Slusher, Rock Island, 111. Milford Emergency Service transported Ross Timmons, 201 E. Pearl St., Leesburg, to Goshen Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 5. On Thursday, Dec. 6, David Siegfried, 121 N. Main St., Milford, was transported from an accident at CR 1350 N and SR 15 to Goshen Hospital. Also transported to Goshen Hospital from the accident at CR 1350 N and SR 15 was Sandra Freet, 552 N. Handman, Nappanee. Lawrence Randall, 208 Church St., Leesburg, was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, on Saturday, Dec. 8. On Sunday, Dec. 9, the EMS transported Marge Kaiser, P.O. Box 264, Milford, to Goshen Hospital.

Born March 30, 1928, in North Webster, he was the son of Grover and Mabel Maggart Penn. Mr. Penn was a retired construction worker and a member of North Webster American Legion. His survivors include three daughters, Lana Wong, Warsaw, and Susan McClenahan and Sharon Sexton, both of Pierceton; two sons, Lee Penn, Henning, and Dan Penn, Larwill; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Letha Jefferies, Fort Wayne, and Buthene King, Pierceton; and two brothers, Ray Penn, North Webster, and Bernard Penn, Henning. He was preceded in death by two sisters. There were no services planned. Cremation was held. Wilma Mae Prough Wilma Mae Prough, 87, Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse, formerly of 918 Wilson Ave., Goshen, died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 1990, in Goshen Hospital. She was born April 29, 1903, in New Paris. On November 21, 1921, she married George S. Prough, who died in May 1973. Her survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jesse (Phyllis) Metzger, Dewart Lake, Syracuse; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Audrey Wisler in 1977; one great-granddaughter, Amy Ellen Homes in 1988; two sisters; and one brother. Mrs. Prough was a homemaker and had been employed at Western Rubber, Goshen, for 22 years. A 50-year member of Plymouth United Church of Christ in Goshen, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Goshen Senior Citizens. A Milford resident during his boyhood years, he founded Yoder Lumber in LaGrange, retiring as owner in 1969. He was a 1930 graduate of Goshen High School and was a member of Delta Upsilon at Indiana University at Bloomington. A member and elder of First United Presbyterian Church, LaGrange, Mr. Yoder served as past LaGrange County commissioner, was a member of LaGrange County Council from 1972 until .1988 and a member of Goshen *Elks Lodge and LaGrange County Council on Aging. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. James (Julie) Phelps, East Lansing, Mich., and Mrs. Fred (Jean) Brown, LaGrange; five grandchildren; one greatgranddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Lloyd (Susie) Johnson, Elkhart; and one brother, Frank E. TWO INJURED, ONE CITED — A two-vehicle accident Thursday, Dec. 6, at 6:20 p.m., on the overpass north of Milford, sent both drivers to Goshen Hospital. David P. Siegfried, 49, North Main Street, Milford, driver of one of the vehicles, complained of pain to his neck. The other driver, Sandra J. Freet, 31, North Hartman, Nappanee, complained of pain to her hip and upper leg area. Freet was cited for disregarding a stop or yield sign. Kosciusko County Police report Siegfried was traveling south on SR 15 in his 1983 Nissan when Freet drove her 1986 Pontiac in front of his vehicle. Freet was traveling east on CR 1350 N. She stated she stopped her. vehicle but saw no vehicles coming. She did tell police that she observed a northbound vehicle waiting on SR 15 to turn left onto CR 1350 N, but could not figure out why the driver was waiting, so she pulled out onto the highway. North Webster needs EMTs
Has anyone watched Emergency 911 lately, or seen any of the other new TV programs this season that show what really happens on ambulances, fire trucks and police departments? The field of EMT is open and available to everyone in the North Webster community who is 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent. Volunteers must be willing to attend 125 hours of instruction in a classroom setting learning how to care for patients in need. Inservice time in an emergency room must also be spent in order to learn patient care from that vantage point. Finally, a test is administered by the State of Indiana before becoming a Certified EMT registered with the State of Indiana. In the North Webster community, assistance with the payment for schooling is offered, as well as support during the time in school byEMTs already state certified. These EMTs are willing to help with any questions concerning the EMT classes. If anyone is interested in becoming an EMT, there is a need now! North Webster EMS is planning an EMT Assistant Class soon. In this class, the student will learn basic first aid, CPR,
