Old Fashioned Christmas in Park

Music will echo from the gazebo in Syracuse Lakeside Park come Sunday, Dec. 9, when an Old Fashioned Christmas in the Park returns. Slated to begin at 5:30 p.m., the holiday concert will feature three talented, local musical groups. Concert-goers are advised to dress warmly and to take a chair. Under the direction of Sherri Lantz, the fifth grade choir from Syracuse Elementary will perform “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” Deck the Halls” and “Jingle Bells.” The Varsity Singers from Wawasee High School, under the direction of Tom Beckett, will sing the following less traditional songs: “Rockin’ Christmas Eve,” “Little St. Nick,” Calypso Carol” and “No Room.” Two groups representing The Lake Area Community Band, the Brass Ensemble and Wnn«+<vi"H Cocfjon wjp nj so be performing. The Brass Ensemble will present its rendition of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “Joy to the World” and “Jingle Bells.” The Woodwind Section will perform “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing," “Silver Bells” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

Following the individual performances, the three groups will join forces and lead the audience in singing “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,” “Silent Night” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Carolers will light candles during this, the Christmas concert’s finale. Santa Claus will visit the evening celebration, giving treats to youngsters. Additional refreshments — coffee, hot chocolate and doughnut holes — will be available for concert-goers and musicians. The concert is expected to last about an hour. --
