TUESDAY’S SNOWFALL turned Main Street into a Winter Wonderland by late morning. The photo shows North Main Street, looking south. Our snowbird readers will be interested in knowing that this is the first real snow of the season. Needless to say, more is expected before any of them head north. The snow seemed to bring with it a festive mood as people began to realize even more fully that Christmas is only 20 days away. —o— TOMORROW IS the day for the distribution of surplus food. Butter, flour, honey and peanutbutter will be distributed to Van Buren Township residents beginning at 10 a m. in the Wawasee Community Bible Church located on the Syracuse-Milford Road. Jefferson Township residents may receive surplus food at the Jesse Berger home on CR 1350 N. As in the past, recipients are required to show identification and should take a container to carry the food home. Elderly or handicapped homebound individuals and eligible working persons can have someone pick up the products for them by sending a signed authorization and proper identification with the person picking up the food. —o— NORTH MAIN Street residents Eldon and Catherine Beer are in Hawaii. Upon checking in at the South Bend airport Monday morning, they learned that their 7 a.m. flight to O’Hare was delayed because of the winter storm. As a result, they made the trip from South Bend to Chicago by limo, and, unfortunately, missed their Honolulu flight by five minutes! They were, however, booked on a later United flight and arrived in Honolulu without incident at 4:30 p.m. Honolulu time. Upon talking to nextdoor neighbor Berniece Dwyer, Eldon reported it was 81 degrees with bright sunshine and that all was well with them in Hawaii. WHEN NIPSCO recently honored employees who joined the company's Quarter Century Club for attaining 25 years of service, a Milford man and a

We’ve doubled the number of our customers, increased our gas sendout by almost 50 percent and added two-thirds of our generating capacity to meet steadily increasing demand,” said Edmond A. According to Milford Fire Chief Jim Amsden, the timer on the whistle thought it was noon. The confusion came when the electricity was shut off at the fire station Saturday because of some electrical work at The Papers Incorporated next door. Amsden will be checking to make sure the timer on the whistle is set correctly. \ DURING A recent educational tour of Fuller Farms in Shelby County, the winners of the Hoosier Beef Carcass Show were honored. The grand champion carcass was bred and fed by Leon Tucker and Family from Milford. Beginning as a substitute carrier in 1969, he then became a regular carrier in 1978. When asked about his future

plans, Leon hopes to get in a lot of fishing, golfing and “goofing off.” According to Milford Postmaster Nancy Laker, Leon’s daughter, Andrea Weybright, will continue delivering mail on this route through the end of December. It is uncertain at this time as to when a regular carrier will be taking over the route. While talking with Nancy, she reports the weather was “perfect” as she and husband John vacationed the past two weeks down South — mainly in Florida and Georgia. —o— WITH THE first snowfall of the season arriving in Milford this week, is it possible to think about spring planting?
