Lessons learned from nature
By MARIETTA FULLER Things of nature in the outdoors can bring lessons to us from the Bible. For instance, when we hear birds singing throughout the day, it should cause us to want to do likewise as we praise our Lord and Savior. Also, our faith can grow stronger as we know that God takes care of feeding the birds and says He will also take care of us unless we have little faith (Matthew 6:26-30). When one delights in the law of the land (the Bible) and meditates on it day and night, his life is a happy one and is likened unto a tree that is planted by the rivers of water (of the Word) that

GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONIES — About 20 members of the All Saints Episcopal Church attended a dedication service of the Wawasee Conference Center last Monday afternoon. Bishop Francis Campbell Gray blessed the ground, then broke it during the short service. Rev. David Hyndman and his brother, Jerome, the architect for the renovation project, participated in the ceremony. The center will provide a meeting place for the Diocese of Northern Indiana. brings forth his fruit in season. This refers to the nine spiritual fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. His leaf shall not wither and die and this refers to His testimony (Psalm 1:1-2). Is your garden growing? I had neglected my rose garden and black beetles and other insects had gotten in and their beauty was taken from them. When we let our enemies of Satan and his workers get into our lives with sin, we need to ask forgiveness of them and ask Christ the Messiah, the “Rose of Sharon,” to indwell us so that the garden of our souls will be beautiful as we produce the fruits of the Spirit of which love is the first and all the other eight depend upon it (Galatians 5:22-23). Also we can then have

fellowship with Him. Have you ever observed the little ant? We can learn a lesson from it for it is always busy doing what is most important to it and that is in providing for its future needs of food. So we Christians need to also be thinking of our future lives in heaven where we will be rewarded for deeds of love done for Jesus (Y’shua) as His many commandments are obeyed. Among them is “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Although not everyone can preach or teach Sunday school or bible study, everyone can pray for and support, if possible, those taking the Gospel to the world. There must be rain and sun-
shine for crops to grow. Likewise, our lives need water of the Word and the SONshine of Christ the Messiah as He indwells us in the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18-20) in order to grow spiritually. Our Lord also gave a new commandment: “As I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34). But of

ourselves we cannot keep this commandment of love, but must be filled with the Spirit of Christ (Luke 11:11-13) so that He can love through us. We must remember that love fulfills the law (Romans 13:10) and also that as we love others, we are loving our Lord and Savior. Seeing the rainbow in the sky, we are reminded of God’s promise that He will never figain destroy the earth by flood. But His greatest promise to us is that salvation, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

FALL FESTIVAL HELD — The annual fall festival at Bethany Church of the Brethren was held last Saturday. The day of fellowship included roasting three hogs, baking bread, making apple butter, helping with the bazaar and preparing supper — all of which was open to anyone to participate. Over $3,000 were raised by the bazaar, bake sale, auction and supper. The money went to outreach programs and the building fund. There were 266 attending the hog roast and 32 gallons of apple butter were sold in half pints, pints and quarts. Shown in the photo are those who canned the apple butter. In front is Roy Eisenhour preparing to hand a jar to Margaret Weybright or Dallas Fox as they dip out the apple butter. Standing at the table are Virginia Clem, Mildred Sheets and Carol Spaid, while Pastor Wayne Lawson stands in the background taking inventory of the apple butter canned. (Photo by Deb Patterson)
