The program is sponsored by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The nominated student must be serving as an elected officer in student government during the 1990-91 school year. Thornton is senior class president this year, served as junior class vice president, and is a member of the student representative council. Two students from each state, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Schools will be selected to attend a seminar in Washington, D.C., from February 2 to February 9,1991. Open house October 23 at WHS
Parents and patrons of the Wawasee Community School Corporation are invited to participate in Wawasee High School's open house and parentteacher conference activities October 23-24. The open house will be on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 7-8:30 p.m. The high school facility will be open for parents and community patrons to come and meet the staff and tour the school. An added bonus for this year’s event, will be the fall music program that begins at 7:30 p.m., in the auditorium. The music program is planned in such away that parents can come and go in order that they Minicheerleader clinic at WHS Cheerleaders of WawaseeHigh School will be sponsoring a minicheerleader clinic on Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Wawasee High School Gymnasium. The clinic will be for girls in kindergarten through eight grade and will be held from 8:30 a.m., until noon. There is a fee for the clinic with the proceeds going towards cheerleading activities at Wawasee High School. ‘Longshot’ at homecoming “Longshot” will be performing live during the Wawasee High School Homecoming Dance Friday evening, Oct. 12. The dance is slated for 9:30-11:30 p.m., in the school gymnasium. The dance, which carries the theme of "Showtime,” is open to all Wawasee High School Students and alumni. Members of the band who will be playing a variety of live songs are: Steve Beyeler, Tom Reschley, Dean Jantzen, Ted Dyck, and Rick Zuercher. There will also be some music provided by a disc jockey. Mural display, essay contest for Red Ribbon Week Wawasee Community School Corporation students are gearing up towards Red Ribbon Week, October 20-28. For the past two weeks elementary students have been working on murals to be displayed in the schools during Red Ribbon Week. Each classroom chose a slogan for the campaign and during art class developed a mural depicting the slogan. Awards will be given to each classroom for the efforts of the students. Middle school and high school students are participating in an essay contest. The topic of the essay is “The importance of a drug free America.” Monetary prizes will be awarded to the top three essays.
Parents who would like to participate in the parent-teacher conferences must schedule in advance those conferences. Ten minutes will be provided for each conference. A form is available to be filled out for the conferences, and parents can fill out the 10-minute time period that best fits his/her schedule. Every effort will be made to schedule the conference during that time slot.
