and into a new facility this weekend.

The congregation of over 400 will mark the official move-in date with an approximate onemile procession from the old church to the new structure this Sunday, Oct 7.

Worship will begin at the Washington Street sanctuary at 9:30 a m. The processional will lead the congregation to the new building on Epworth Forest Road for the opening worship, where the sacrament of Holy Communion will conclude the service. Following, the building and grounds will be open for exploration. Time Os Change The building is not the only thing new at the North Webster congregation. Pastor Rick Taylor has been at the church for only three months. Still the new pastor has a keen sense of where the church has been, where it is and where it is going. Taylor said the congregation’s ultimate goal is to reach out the community for Jesus Christ and to share the good news of His relationship with others. More immediately, the church is trying to meet the needs of its members by improving the facility. The new building means that the North Webster United Methodists can broaden their programs. The building sits on one level, is handicapped accessible and comes complete with a family center/multipurpose room. It has space enough and equipment for basketball and volleyball, in addition to community meetings. “From where we have been to where we are going, we’re making possible a lot more avenues to reach the community,” observed Taylor. If the new building needed a theme, he’d call it ‘communityactive.”

“We care for it, support it and meet it needs in the unique way churches can,” explained Taylor. The Building Even though plans for the new church have been in the works for over two years, the structure went up in record time — only 62 days. Only the first phase of the facility, a hallway and a multipurpose area comprise the new church. The hallway runs north-south and is flanked on one side by business, offices and on the other by nursery, crib room and rest rooms. The hall leads to the multipurpose room to the north. Carpeted shoulder high on the sides, the multipurpose building doubles as both a sanctuary and a recreation area. Chairs and a portable pulpit on the stage turn the down sized basketball court or auditorium into a worship area. Various specialized rooms wrap around the outside of the multipurpose area. They include several storage areas and bible study classrooms, rest rooms and a kitchen. The master plan of the church calls for construction of an eightsided sanctuary at the south end of the hall with more rooms — foyer, offices, classrooms and choir hall — surrounding it. The new church sits on 10 acres of ground east of SR 13 on Epworth Forest Road. Bart Culver donated the land to the church and asked the woods behind the structure not be destroyed. At

SWATCH IT — The Calvary Baptist Church in Oswego had a ground breaking service for a fellowship hall and AWANA game room on Sunday, Sept. 23. Church officials expect the new structure, erected off of church's east wing, to be complete in 60 to 90 days. going to the church increases during the summer months with lake residents; but according to Payne, more and more people are becoming year-round residents. He hopes the new church will attract them. “To have a place for children, for the young people coming into and up through the church, was the reason for the family center,” explained Alice Rinker, a member of the building committee. With an eye on the future, church officials have built a structure that fits the congregation’s current needs and that can New pastor Rev. Kenneth Overmyer has been named pastor of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Syracuse. Overmyer has been pastor of River Park United Methodist Church, South Bend, and has served pastorates in Berne, Warsaw, Shipshewana and Elkhart. adapt to the demands of generations to come. The new facility gives the church’s growing congregation needed space. And it’s all on one level. In the old building, “we had no facility for young people. It was so up and down. A lot of older people couldn’t do that,” explained Rinker who has belonged to the church for over 20 years.
